Okay, here is what I THOUGHT would work:

In a magical place.....

We will renew the marriage vows
we made to each other on December 22, 1984.

Please join us
The Twelvth of January, 2009
at ten o'clock a.m.

Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Reception to Follow
Whitehall Patio and Ballroom

BUT -- my friend said it MUST have our names and suggested replacing "us" with "Cam and Howard". I am uncomfortable with the incongruency of switching from 1st person to 3rd person (We will renew .... please join Cam & Howard). Even in the alternative "Cam and Howard will renew the vows they made to each other" and then "Please join us". It just seems dischordant to me because of the grammar.

I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense, but if you understand what the heck I am talking about, can you make a suggestion? I don't want it all in the 3rd person either -- "Cam & Howard will renew the vows they made. Please join them.. .."

Ideas? Suggestions? "Get a life, Cam!"? UGH!!!

My thought is this .....

Cam and Howard
25Th Anniversary
"All our wishes have come true"
(The above would be in different print and separate setting it off)
In this magical place....

Thanks, Tammy!
Here is the "compromise" I came up with on Sunday, but I'm not sure if it seems awkward.

Cam & Howard
Celebrating Our 25th Year

In a Magical Place. ... (there's a long verse here)

We will renew the marriage vows
we made to each other on .......

What do you think of having our names at the top like that?

Cam,

you got it all figured out already. That sounds great! :cool1:

I like it! Very elegant sounding!

I like it Cam...just go with that, save the stress and be donw with it girl :) It is beautiful!!

Thanks, everyone! I feel better now that you aren't telling me it is pretentious to have our names up top/out front like that. Now, I just have to sell Howard on it. :goodvibes

I lurk over here. First, let me say that I loooove that you're having a vow renewal. DH and I don't feel like we had the wedding we wanted or like we had much control over our wedding and hope to renew our vows at some point too, so I always enjoy seeing all the VR couples. :thumbsup2

The part that I bolded flows a little bit oddly for me. Where the ....... is, are you putting the date of your original wedding?

Also, just a thought, but if you feel uncomfortable with your names up top like that, you could put a spin on the traditional "Together with our parents Mr & Mrs X and Mr & Mrs Y....." You could put "together with our children X & Y......" and then go on with the whole Cam & Howard invite you part.

Thanks, Becky!

Actually, it will look like this:

I considered including Jenn and Andrew's names, but decided not to. I think it is a really sweet idea, but it just didn't feel right, especially since we want to mention our original date. It started seeming too bulky.

I really hope you get to have the wedding of your dreams someday! We are going all out as if this were a wedding, even though I hesitated at first. Then, several things occurred to me:
1. A dear friend of mine has been married 4x and divorced 3x (the first at 18 and the last-- and right one-- at ~ 50). She had a big, elaborate wedding each time. Why shouldn't Howard and I do this just because we are already married to each other?

2. If I were marrying for the second time, I'd have the wedding of my dreams (older, wiser, more independent, financially able). Why shouldn't I do it just because it's still the same guy?

3. We would marry each other again in less than a heartbeat. So, we are.

4. Many of the people we love today weren't in our lives the first time (including Jenn and Andrew). So, why shouldn't we do up our celebration and share it with our nearest and dearest? The reality is that none of them thinks it is silly or pretentious or frivolous, and they are the ones who matter.

I say, go for it! :lovestruc

You must have used the ..... as a spacer and I got confused. Hey, I have six kids at my house today, it happens ;)

I hope that you have the wedding of your dreams. It sounds very romantic.

We probably will too, but we will wait until we're finished adding to our family first, so that all the kids can be there to celebrate. :thumbsup2 Plus we'll probably wait for a milestone anniversary.

I completely agree with all the reasons you listed for having a VR, and hey, why not? 25 years is a great accomplishment! Obviously it was meant to be! Congratulations again!

Thanks, Becky! You are so sweet!
Wait! 6 kids? At your house? All at once? And this isn't making you think of NOT having more kids? LOL! You must be an awesome Mom!
