DS is turning 16 in October and we're planning a surprise weekend to Universal. He would absolutely love to stay at Hard Rock. I've been to WDW a million times and understand how to manuver the discount maze: AP's, AAA, Teacher discounts... Could someone please give me short lesson about what type of discounts to look for and which one is usually the best? Previously I've been told since I live in GA we qualify for the FL discount.

When you are on Universal's website, trying to make a reservation, you can enter AAA, APH (Annual Passholder) or FLO (for Florida/GA/ALabama resident rate discount) for discounts. It goes back and forth as to which one of the three will be the cheapest at any given time. Check frequently (I checked daily - and I work at night. I would check in the middle of the night and find that the discounts changed, then would change again before the morning). Sometimes, various discounts get better as the date approaches (ie: two months ahead of time might be cheaper as opposed to six months in advance). When I went last month, I had a AAA rate at the RPR for $183/night. My sister, who lives in Alabama, had rates that went from $129/night for the first night, then $179/night for the rest of the nights. Good luck and I hope this helped.
