Help with Twitter

I started a Twitter account about a year ago but never did anything on it. Now I feel behind the times and don't know didley about it. What is the best way to find people (celebrities and friends). It seems there has to be an easier way than just do a seach. Esp on celebs. How do you know if it is really them tweeting or if its a page someone else has started. Any Twittering tips would be great! I've gotten so use to facebook that I just don't know how to get around on Twitter! Thanks!!!!!!

Famous people have "verified" accounts, there will be a little checkmark next to their name.

I usually find someone I like, then look to see who they follow and find interesting people that way. There's also a lot of "best twitter" lists people have come up with.
