Help with t-shirt transfers, please: Mickey's green!

I am in t-shirtville this week.

I am printing a Mickey (mountie Mickey, thanks Natalie) for a white t-shirt. Looks fine on my screen, but when I ironed it on, Mickey's mountie hat was a non-regulation green, and his face looked like he'd been on ToT once too often. Any ideas?

I'm using Avery transfer paper on my HP deskjet. I wonder if I ironed it too hot/too long? Would that affect colour? I don't have a real editing package, just paint, so can't really mess with the design much. Any ideas?

When my husband used our t-shirt press for our shirts before our trip (while I was packing!), he noticed a big difference in color, depending on how long he left them in the press, so that is probably your problem. What did the manufacturer suggest for iron setting and amount of time to adhere?

Thanks Marci, I was sticking to the max, which seemed more than enough...maybe I'll try a little less. I happen to have an extra copy of Mickey. (Printed him with his head partially cut off...whoops.) I'll try it out before I print more.

Yes it's a heat thing with the iron, just turn it down a touch and you should be OK.
