Help with San Diego lodging for 6!!!

Hoping my budget minded friends can help me! We are a family of 6 looking to travel to San Diego December 26th until January 1st. I am looking for condo style roomy accomodations as my children are teens and older. I've been all over the web and all I seem to come up with is the Welk resort which I am not interested in. (Also know of my options such as 2 hotel rooms, Residence Inn, Homewood Suites, etc...) Anyone have a suggestion for a great place that is somewhat centrally located to all of the sights? Anywhere with an onsite pool, close to a beach etc. Thanks so much for any advice!

Our family of 4 stayed at the La Jolla Residence Inn and it was a great location. Close to restaurants and supermarket (Ralphs) and all the attractions (LegoLand-Sea World-Zoo-Downtown-Beach). Easy access to I5 for both North and Southbound destinations.

If your familiar with RI's, this is an old school one, looks like apartments/condos and they are very roomy. We were able to sleep 4 comfortably in a studio/penthouse setup, I am not sure about the bigger rooms. They also have free breakfast and happy hour. The only downside is the parking can be a little difficult late at night and the pool isnt the biggest but I highly recommend this hotel.

It has been few years, but we stayed in a 2bdrm suite in Rancho Bernardo at the Staybridge Suites. LOVED it. We are a family of 6 now (although were a family of 5 then) and that is on my list of places to check out when we're ready to go back.
