Help with room request for VWL

How soon can I fax my room request? What would you request, a particular floor or view? I have never stayed at the VWL, so I'm not sure what to request. We are staying in a studio, 2 adults no children. This will be an anniversary trip. Thanks for your help.

When booking we stated our preference. We were told we had to call 3 days before arriving to give the request. We did this and were told it was already noted.

Thought we were in the clear - upon check in we were told that rooms were given out on a 1st come 1st serve basis. Needless to say we didn't get what we wanted!

My problem with this is - why were we allowed to make requests????
