5520 ( split room) or 8188 ( waaaay extended balcony)?

17 year old son and I.
We have never stayed aft.
We have stayed forward but, always over a room as opposed to a public area.

Both rooms have a a high rating here.

I am a bit of a sleep diva, he is not.
Neither of us is prone to motion sickness.

Which room would you choose?

As afr as I know the category 8A rooms do not have the dividing curtain nor the split bathroom. For me those two features are why I decided against booking them as they are very important to me.

Another vote for 8188, we love being up higher on the ship and think the huge balcony trumps the extra space in room.

Another vote here for the split bath over the bigger balcony.

The one with the split bath *is* the one with the balcony. 5520 is the split layout, which does not have a split bath and is a big room with no balcony at all.

Which ship? I've read that parts of the Fantasy's aft can have severe vibration issues.

We were aft on the Fantasy in 2014 and never felt any vibration problems. We were on Deck 7.

One person's "severe vibration" is another's "gentle massage". We read plenty of complaints about the aft Vista suite we had on the Crown Princess. It wasn't any big deal to us, but then again, we could sleep through a dynamite truck crashing into a nitroglycerine factory.

Yes, I know. It was from a thread that had more than one poster complain about the same thing, so I thought I'd pass the warning on. The OP can choose to research that or not.

Yeah. I read all the complaints when we chose the flagpole verandah. We chose it anyway. Can't wait to be back aft.

Well, we were aft on deck 10 on the Fantasy in September 2014, and believe me, there was vibration. So much so that in Animator's for dinner one night there were water glasses shimmying off the tables. It felt like we had one of those vibrating beds from some cheap motel.

That was deck 10 in an aft room directly under the starboard entrance area to Cabanas. Next cruise we were on deck 9, more mid-ship on the port side. While the vibrations were lesser there, they were still evident.

Speculation had long been that "something's out of balance". Maybe it got fixed during her recent propulsion issue fix. I don't know, but it was a definite vibration, not just a little one.

The only major vibration I've noticed in the past 3 years has been when the boat is turning. I even asked our Remy waiter one time because glasses were rattling and he said it seemed like we were turning. Turned out we were making a stop by the Turks & Caicos for a medical emergency at that time.

I am grateful to all of you for your input!

Some specifications:
We will be on the Dream.
This specific 8A room does have a wall so,privacy is not an issue. It does not have the split bath.
I am leaning toward 8188 (assuming my procrastination hasn't made me choice for me) but, my concern is the vibration. With no experience with an aft cabin, I have nothing to compare it to.
I have read more than a few different reviews (not here) where people actually changed rooms due to the vibration.
It does truly seem like something we will just have to see (or feel) for ourselves.

Thank you again!!

I've never read of any substantial vibration on the Dream, only the Fantasy. Yes, there is some vibration on any cruise ship, particularly in the aft. But, in my experience, it's generally along the line of what you'll get on a road trip. It's there, but not really obnoxious.

Shmoo -- what month did you go in 2014? We went in December, maybe it was fixed by then :confused3 I honestly didn't notice anything -- not even in AP

We were on the Fantasy in September. Prior to that time there were lots of reports of the vibration, so I was somewhat prepared, but it was worse than I thought it would be.

It'd be nice if it were fixed.
