I am going to Universal two weeks from today and need assistance. I am not a roller-coaster fan but am thinking of riding Revenge of the Mummy. I have only been on one other roller-coaster ride in my life. I have seen videos of this ride and think I might be able to handle it. The launch and the drops don't bother me. If anyone else thinks maybe I should skip this ride, please let me know. Thanks.

go for it lifes too short !!!

The worse is you will hate it and its only a short ride, the best ( like me ) you will love it, get off and rush around to do it again !!!

Sorry just noticed this is your first post. Welcome!!!! :cool1:

Let us know how you got on, on your return.

if you're ok with the launch and the very short drop, you'll be fine...it's not bad at all

To put your mind at ease, DD who is afraid of Roller Coasters..............

Made me do the ride 5 times in a row! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

BTW, I hate roller coasters too but really enjoyed the ride!

Go For It!

As coasters go, ROTM is fairly tame -- the launch is fast but the most of the ride is just quick and smooth. The theming and "dark ride" aspects of ROTM are so wonderful, I think you should give it a try. Even if you don't like the coaster part, it's relatively short.

Thanks for the advice. I was worried about Tower of Terror at MGM but I did that once last year. Two weeks from today, I will be in Universal. Cannot wait.

This is a great ride. From one non-rollercoaster person to another... you will LOVE this ride!

Just two more curiosity questions: 1) Is the drop shorter than the one at the end of Splash Mountain and 2) Is the launch like the end of Test Track. I seen photos and videos of this ride and the visual effects look really cool.

what about for a small child? ds is 5 and has been on tower of terror(will not go again though), and dinosaur at AK, but was not his favorite.........we watched the mummy last weekend and he really loved the movie. Will the ride be to scary for him? I do not want to ruin the entire day with one ride! TIA

The drop is definitely less than Splash Mountain, and the launch is a little faster than Test Track, in my opinion. It's a great ride!

Unless your son is really tall for his age, he probably won't make the height requirement for Mummy (48", I believe). I suspect that if he didn't like Tower of Terror, he wouldn't like Mummy (although if he is into the mummy theme, it could be different). My advice (if he makes the height requirement) is for you to go on the ride once and judge for yourself what you think his reaction will be. My youngest daughter went on it when she hit the height requirement at age 7, and she loves the ride; but then again, she likes Tower of Terror too.

^^^^ The drop is not bad at all. Its curving which gives you less of that "stomach feeling" and I'm pretty sure its not as tall as Splash Mountain. I personally think the "launch", if you can even call it a launch on ROTM is nothing. Although, if you compare it to Test Track (which doesnt launch at all), then yeah, its a little more intense. But compared to The Hulk or Rock n Rollercoaster, ROTM is nothing. You should deffinatly try it, even if the coaster part does scare you (which it probably wont), the first half's effects and theming makes up for it.

I do not know about that. I rode Tower of Terror but had my eyes closed most of the time. Should that deter me from riding ROTM.

spb,
As others have said, the drop isn't as long as on Splash. I also agree with the pp that said they wouldn't really call it a launch. It's nothing like you're obviously thinking.

paper,
If you DS didn't like TOT or Dinosaur, he's probably not going to like ROTM at all. Riding 1st to see what you think is a good idea, but I really doubt he'll like it. IMHO, ROTM's special effects are the most intense of the 3.

If you're not concerned about the special effects, then you have nothing to worry about. They're by far the scariest part of the ride. IMO, the coaster part isn't anything to fear.

One more thing that I thought of asking. I get motion sickness very easily so whenever I fly, ride on a boat, or ride certain rides, I have to take Dramamine or Bonine way ahead of time. Should I take something before I ride ROTM or is it really not worth it.

If you get motion sickness that easily, you should probably take bonine before you enter the park. Not necessarily because of ROTM, but because you'll also be going on Earthquake, BTTF, MIB, etc. There's motion on all of those.

When I read about a launch on ROTM, I wondered what I missed. I went on this ride probably 8 times over the course of 5 days and never once noticed a launch like on RNR. I don't like rollercoasters that aren't in the dark. If I can't see the track, that's ok with me. That's why I didn't do Hulk or DD.
