My DD asked for a Wreck this Journal set for Christmas. I told my SIL about it and she offered to buy it for her. Turns out, (I think) she ordered off Amazon and got a Wreck This Journal BUNDLE. So, 4 of all the exact same thing only different covers. Sigh.

None of us realized this until my DD took the shrink wrap off the bundle. My SIL was not there at that point and has no idea. I doubt they can be returned, so I would rather just not tell her.

So, what can I do with the 3 extras? I was thinking about "paying" DD for one, and we can re-gift it at the next bday party. Then, trying to return the other 2 at stores that will take it without a receipt. I know that B&N will not take anything without a receipt. She'd be fine with doing an exchange for the other books in this set, but I don't think the list prices are exactly the same. Ugh. Any suggestions on how / where I could try to return these?

TIA!

I ordered the same set and assumed they would each be different inside, not just covers.

I did have it in mind though to give 3 as gifts and hold onto the 4th for the unexpected gift that might come up.

As it turned out, DD got one for Christmas and I gave 1 each to my niece and DSs girlfriend. DH took the other one for his "Dirty Santa" gift for work. :lmao:

Before DH took it for the Dirty Santa gift, I was just going to save it for bday parties that DD would be invited to.

Sorry but "returning" them to a store where they were not bought is dishonest. I'd keep them to regift or use them for birthday gifts for your dd's friends.

Just return them to Amazon - they have one of the most incredible return policies out there. Return and buy the one she wants! :)

Yes, unfortunately this is why return policies get so strict. I worked at Target during the whole "2 returns per year" debacle (only 2 returns without receipt per year) and it made people hopping mad when they legitimately had Target merchandise but no receipt.

Sure this is small potatoes "just a book" but it's this type of returning that makes stores have such strict return policies. It doesn't make you evil-bad-person for considering such. No need to flog OP. I just hope you choose to reconsider. :thumbsup2

I think though these books would make great gift ideas! For the teen age set, it is so hard to come up with a birthday party gift (other than gift cards) and this would fit any and all of my dd's 13yo friends. Shoot I think I just gave myself the idea to buy the combo pack at Amazon for the gift closet, lol!

The niece and sons girlfriend that I gave 2 journals to were 18/19 years old. I tucked a $10 Starbucks gift card into each and told them I hoped the journals and Starbucks card would be stress relief at college this upcoming semester. They were thrilled with the journals and have begun using them already.

Thanks everyone. I hate returning things. I have donated many brand new items, because I really hate returning things!

I honestly don't know where the books were purchased. I just assumed, because my SIL buys a lot from Amazon. As I said, I didn't really want to have to tell her that she made a mistake and since the plastic wrap was removed from the bundle, I didn't think they'd be returnable as a bundle. And because I spent thousands this Christmas:faint: I didn't want to spend anymore!

I have to share my true story of returning items. This was many years back, and apparently policies and thoughts on this have changed. :) I had TONS of baby shower gifts to return. I had no idea where most of them were bought. I went to WalMart with some that I knew had been purchased there. As I stood there talking to the employee taking the items back, I told her how much stuff I had to return and how overwhelmed I was with the thought of trying to figure out where everything came from, etc., etc. She looked at me like I was absolutely crazy and said "Bring them here. If we carry it, we will take it back. We will resell it at or above the price we give you for it, so it's no big deal." I went home and brought the items back a couple days later. New employee this time....same deal. They KNEW much of what I had may not have been bought there and they scanned every single item and took back anything that "rang up". Anything that was left over, I took to Target and they did the exact same thing. I really don't like alerting friends and family to the fact that I'm taking the gifts they bought back. At that time, I was buying lots of things at resales and didn't need so many clothes, bibs, toys etc. The summer after my DD's 1st bday (huge party), even after returning some stuff, she didn't wear any outfit more than twice!

Anyway, because of this, it never even occurred to me that trying to return something to a store when I wasn't sure where the item was purchased was even slightly dishonest. I know no one was mean about it (yet), but I just wanted to clarify - I certainly wasn't looking for ways to cheat the system! It has just been my experience that the stores didn't care! Apparently, things have changed!

I will probably just "buy" them from DD and regift them. Thanks! It's good to know that these will be considered a good gift and I'm not regifting junk!:flower3:

A lot of stores are flexible with baby item returns (especially if you are registered there) because they want your loyal business for all the following years. It's a smart move. :thumbsup2
