We are flying into Tampa airport next month to drive to the beach. We are wanting to rent a car to do so. I did rent a car a few years ago with hertz at our hotel in Orlando. However that ended up being a nightmare. Anyone got any tips on who to use for the best deal and less crap to deal with. I am assuming at some point we will drive through a toll road. How does that work? If we was to pay at that time?

On the toll. Depends on the road. Most have cash lanes. Some rental companies will rent you a toll transponder which is pricey.

I've used Hertz, Dollar, and National. Sign up for one of their various "express" clubs so you don't have to go to the counter. Just straight to the parking lot. This avoids much of the hassle.

Bring a roll of quarters for toll roads. Some interchanges are not manned and require a Sun Pass or change only.

Those toll roads can be crazy, it seems like every 5 miles there is one. Bring a roll of quarters with you!
