For school, my 8 year old daughter...has to, "create a recipe that is truly edible. You will write two versions, one that is made up of great ingredients such as snake eyes, witches nails, bat intestines, etc. and one that is the real food interpretation of that recipe. Your final part of this assignment is to actually make your recipe to be served as part of our Halloween celebration"

I am not creative at all and can never think of these things.

It can not be something that is refrigerated because there is no refrigerated storage area.

Any creative suggestions? Thanks!

The first thing to do would be to find a recipe you want to make then write up the gross alternative.

Like Hot Chocolate(Obviously find a better "recipe" if you do this - this is just an example)
1 part warm ghost blood (milk)
1 part snake venom(chocolate)
7 werewolf eyes (marshmallows)

I am doing this with my 1st grade class- I can't take credit for it. I found this on a webiste (not sure which one). We have a poetry center, and this has been our poem for the week. We finish it up with an eating activity!

Witches' Stew

Sizzle, sizzle, crackle, pop!
Stir it in the witch's pot
Bones, stones, and frog eyes, too.
Add worms and gizzards to the stew.

Sizzle, sizzle, what a treat
Mix and stir and then we'll eat!

Bones- pretzel sticks
Stones- peanuts
frog eyes- Cheerios
worms- raisins
gizzards- plain M&Ms

We mix it all up in a black cauldron. The kids love it!!

We make the following pretzel recipe all the time and it is always a huge hit!! They are soooo yummy!!

Seasoned petrified ghoul guts!

1 C. vegetable oil (ectoplasm)
1 pkg. original hidden valley ranch dressing mix (crushed bones)
1 tsp. dill weed (warewolf whiskers)
1/2 tsp. garlic powder (dehydrated eyeballs)
1 tbsp. Wosteshire sauce (vampire sweat)
2 10oz. pkgs. small twisted pretzels (petrified ghoul guts)

Mix first five ingredients and pour over pretzels, stir until all pretzels are coated then continue to stir occasionally over several hours until all the liquid has been absorbed. Enjoy.

Sounds like a fun project. BTW I just made up the halloweeny names for the ingredients I would love it if you guys could come up with better names for the ingredients.

Give your dd some suggestions of types of food she could take to the party, let her decide on something and come up with her own names. I think she'd have a lot more fun that way!

That's so cute! DD really liked the werewolf eyes.

Yes, she is required to dress up like a mad scientist and this does count as a grade...even though this is for their Halloween party :confused3

No other requirements related to the food. No allergies in her class.:woohoo:

Hmmm... any other requirements? Sounds like FUN!!

Just a side note--I just had this at a party last week and it is VERY good!!

Oh how cute!!! Thanks for sharing that. I teach too! But I am so lacking in creativity it isn't even funny.

OMG, my 12yodd would so love to do that.:rotfl: So I guess she has to put the treat together and speak about it?

Yum...that sounds like something I might enjoy eating at my house too! I love the names, you all are so creative! Thanks!

That is the plan! To give her some DIS suggestions, then see what she comes up with. We'll brainstorm Halloween themes/topics, which will hopefully be fresh in her mind since we're going to get her costume tomorrow.

Not sure how much she'll have to say about it other than reading her recipe. That's probably about it :). Hopefully it will be a fun...and yummy, day for them!

Don't worry about it- I always say all good ideas are borrowed from other teachers! I google other teachers' websites- it's amazing what you can find out there.
