I want to buy my sister a prepaid phone for Christmas. She is not technically saavy and I just want to provide a cell phone to her that she can have when she drives in case of emergency and also is able to be on her computer and phone at the same time. I have looked at phones and they are pretty confusing. I want to buy her a simple phone and minutes to get her going. This will be a back up phone, she does have a land line. Please tell me about yours and how easy/inexpensive it is. Thanks so much.

Lots of threads here about Tracfone, that's the prepaid plan we have as light users. Some simple and economical phones there.

I use Virgin Mobile. The phone I have was $19.99 on sale for $13.99 and just a basic TNT! flip phone. It runs me about $6 per month. You have to add $20 every 3 months to keep it active. If it will only be for very limited use, then a really good deal. Mine is $0.18 per minute voice, $0.15 per txt.

Instead of a family plan on my Verizon, ds and dh have had tracfone for about 14 years.

Most recently on the website I got ds a Motorola, looks like a Razor, with 2 60 minute cares, double minutes for life free shipping for $19.99. and tax.
I get sent codes for extra cards, but for dh I just have the $9.99 a month that adds 50 minutes and days. Never run out that way.

The replacement of needed is just the same package again. In fact sometimes when the deal is on for the 2 60 minute cards with a free phone, I just pick one up.

There are some plans I think Verizon has that are pay by the day, but if she uses it even just a few minutes several days that adds up fast.

I use Pinzoo for my minutes too. They often will look for codes for me, last time I added minutes as the ds was driving to work., I got double the 120 for 240- and then she gave me a code for another 60 free.

Not sure of other plans, this is the only one we used

We just switched from Tracfone to Page Plus Cellular. It's $10 for 100 min that last 120 days a much better deal than Tracfone. The phones are a bit more at about $50 but long term the savings is better. You can also use any unlocked Verizon CDMA phone. A big plus for me is that CS is US based and not farmed out to India like Tracfone. I prefer to support a business that stays in the US.
