I am thinking of taking advantage of the current promotion(thank you Senecabeach for the info on your guide).

I am thinking of purchasing 225 points to AKV for $21,600 My guide said I would have 225 points for 2007(No MF for 2007) and receive the 160 developer points(good for one year). My family was at Disney for two weeks this summer and we travel there every other year. We would not plan to go back until summer 2009. I can wait until then to purchase, but this seems like a good deal.

I would accumulate all these points, but not use them. My thought was to rent my 2007, 2008 and developer points and use the proceeds to pay down my loan. If the going rate is 12/pt, that results into $7,000. That would account for 1/3 of my loan balance. I feel like I would be reducing my cost/point by renting the points, and in summer of 2009 we would have our 225 points to enjoy at Disney. I plan on using our tax refund next year to pay down the majority or complete balance. I understand I will have MF due for 2008, but does this seem feasible? I do not want DVC to think I want to profit from this. We truely will be using our points every other year.

I learned a lot from these boards, but wanted some expert advice.

Thank you for your feedback

For a newbie, that is very good and sophisticated thinking....in my view quite good.

A few things that you didn't list but may be of interest...I think that if you are referred by another member, you get a better discount. The current promotion give an $8 credit plus additional developer points. Furthermore, if you already have a Disney Visa card, Visa will give you an additional $500.

Tell your guide that you were referred by another DVC member, use me if you want...send me a PM and I will send you my info.

This is a great promotion, by the way....you are buying the right thing at the right time.

Good luck
David

Thank you for your help. I don't have a Disney Visa card so I am not eligble for the $500 credit. You are correct. The current promotion is $8 off and 160 DP if you purchase 225.

Another work around is to get a DVC member to buy points for you. Then you get a larger quantity of developer points and you only have to buy 200 points as an add on, (you get 270 developer points instead of only 160).

They will buy it in their name then sell it to you for an price "on paper" that is high enough to get you past ROFR.

In the interval, they can list you as an associate so that you can do whatever you need to do buy, sell, transfer the points.

There will be a charge when you transfer the deed back to you, a title company will charge less than $500 (if you record the deed yourself, it will cost less than $100) but the additional points and the better use year of Feb makes up for that, in my opinion.

I am sure that Disney would frown mightily if too many people do this, so if you decide to go down this route, walk silently. Doing this is not illegal or anything, but Disney is a "FOR PROFIT" outfit and they don't like people who exploit loopholes which are strictly legal but result in a loss of money on their end.

Feel free to contact me at any time by email or telephone if you need any further help.

Just my .02 worth, but I would recommend getting the Disney Visa card. Even if you only use it for the promos it is worth having. Using it for the downpayment got us 500 disney reward dollars. You can also get 10% off on any purchases at World of Disney at DTD so if you are gonna buy stuff anyways it is a nice perk. There are more perks with the card, but you get the point. Apply online if you need an account number right away.
