Hi!!

We are planning a trip to LA and San Diego this summer. We will probably stay at the Universal Hilton, cuase we have free Hilton points. How easy is it to get from there to other place we want to visit? Like can you walk or take transportation to:

Warner Bros Studio
La Brea Tar Pitts
The Grove
Kitson on Robertson Blvd
Chinese Theatre/walk of fame
Hollywood sign (where's a good plave to view?)
Getty Center

We are also planning on taking my DD to see Pepperdine Univeresity. How long of a drive is that? and can someone recommend beach(es) along the way. Can we drive from there all the way to Venice Beach?

We will have a car when we are there, but would like to avoid using it were is makes sense.

Thanks so much for any help!!!

This is LA. Be prepared to use that car! You might want to buy a GPS to help out. There is some limited Metro service - I know there is one line that goes to the Chinese. But overall a car is a necessary evil.

The universal hilton is really pretty central to some of your places:

Warner Bros Studio - just a bit north. So is Disney.
Chinese Theatre/walk of fame - just 1 or 2 exits south on the 101.
Hollywood sign (where's a good plave to view?)

For the Hollywood sign I recommend going up to Griffith Observatory - you'll get a great view of it. I understand you can hike to the sign as well. Also you'll get a great view of LA. Better at night.

The Grove - I assume you mean the concert venue in Anaheim? that's close to DL, not Universal.

La Brea Tar Pitts - kind of downtown. Not too bad - maybe 30 min away.
Kitson on Robertson Blvd - not familiar with it.

Getty Center - the new Getty is over near the coast - so you might combine that with a beach trip to Santa Monica or Venice beaches. May take anywhere from 30 min to an hour depending on traffic I'd say.

The Getty Centre & Pepperdine are right on the PCH towards Malibu/ Santa Barbara

Thanks so much for the replys!!! I will definately combine the Pepperdine and Getty center to the same day. The grayline map is a big help!!!

No, the Getty Center is not in Malibu. If you want to see Roman antiquities, you should enjoy the Getty Villa, but you must obtain timed entry tickets beforehand. The Getty Center is off the San Diego Freeway (405) in the Brentwood area.

Pictures from the Getty Center are in the last post of the photo thread in this forum. I may post photos from the Getty Villa in the future.
