help with hair on Lucille Ball project??

DD#1 is going to be "Lucille Ball" for her "wax museum" project. We are finding that no local costume place rents wigs anymore, and the local shop (with the VERY rude propietor I might add) wants $30 for a "Lucy" wig. The best I can find on EBay is $20 including shipping. At these prices I'll get an outfit from Salvation Army or Goodwill, but I think the hair has to be right. How do those non-permanent rinses look? She needs an orangy red, and she has blondish brown hair (women I hope you can understand my terms color-wise!). Her hair is also stick-straight and nothing on earth will make it curly, so the color is important as we will probably just put it up as much as we can, but I don't want anything even semi-permanent as her dance pictures are 2 days later.

My mom use the non permanent rinses on her hair. It looked fine. Have you looked at this website:
