We are having a garage sale this weekend. We just did some repainting & have alot of curtains & home decorations that I am getting rid of. Do throw pillows sell?

They are all about 7 or 8 years old & in good condition. I have washed all the curtains & any kind of bedding we had. We also have a lot of throw rugs & wall decor.

Do these kinds of things sell in a garage sale & if they do for what price? If it doesn't sell it goes to Goodwill.

Truthfully, I'm not a fan of having garage sales, but I have so much stuff that I'd like to give it a try before I just pack it up for Goodwill.

TIA!

I can't help you with prices and what sells, we're thinking of having our first garage sale ever in a few weeks.

What we thought we'd do is check out some other garage sales in the neighborhood, to get a feel for what sells and the prices. You need to get a feel for your area, we think that's the best way to do so. Just don't come back with stuff--we're trying to get rid of stuff, not add more to the heap!

George Carlin's definition of a house--

A house is a place where you keep your stuff while you'r out buying more stuff!:rotfl2:

I've had a ton of yard sales (unfortunately!) over the past few years.

Bed linens, bathroom towels/washcloths, pillows, etc. are usually the first things to go at my sales. Kitchen textiles too. I had 2 women get in a fight once over who grabbed the kitchen towels first!!!!

I recently sold all my couch throw pillows (the couches we trashed...long story) and a big ole area rug at our yard sale, first stuff to sell. I sold the throw pillows for $2 each and the rug for $15. The lady asked me if the rug was stained and I giggled, the rug was 5 years old, bought new for $190 she is getting it for $15!! (It wasn't stained or anything I just get such a kick out of yard sale shoppers. I love to sell but don't have much patience for haggling)

I am a cheapo. When I go to garage sales, I spend very little. When I have a garage sale I sell for very little. My clothes are 25 cents a piece or 5 for $1.00. Most everything else - toys, sheets, decor, etc. are 10 cents to $2.00 most. The purpose of my garage sales is to get rid of things and take as little to salvation army as possible.

In fact on my 2nd day of a garage sale, at around 10:00, everything is free. TAKE IT PLEASE!!!!

Yes, I like to make a little money, but mostly want to clear out my house.

But everybody is different. Some people will spend $4.00 on an outfit. I won't. If you live in a nicer area, you can sell for a bit higher.

We're going thru the garage getting ready to have a garage sale ourselves. Quite the random pile of things we have accumulated. An old dryer that still works, DH is getting rid of his hunting bow that hasn't been used in 15 years, He has two tires for his truck that he for some reason kept, they were in good shape when he bought all new matching tires, a bread machine, boxes of books, lots of random "things" we've gotten as gifts over the years.

I really don't know what to price things at either.

We're going 25 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardback books. Does that sound reasonable?

Also, for you old pros - what do you usually get as far as change to start with? How much in ones, fives, and quarters?

Thanks!!

I just had a garage sale this weekend. I had clothes marked at $.50 and nicer outfits, dresses, coats a little higher(all kids clothes) Anyhow - no one looked when they were $.50. My neighbor said to make them $1 and I sold quite a bit at that price and then had raised the price on the hanging items and sold so of that too.

I sold childrens' books @ $.50 each and I only had a few adult books which were hardcover, barely used so I had them priced from $1 - $4 and sold some. Our library has Used Book Sales and sells all childrens at $.50, paperback adults at $.50, hardcover adult at $1.00 and better quaility hardcover priced accordingly.

I found DVD's sold well too. Also beach towels which I sold at $1 a piece. True "Garage Sale Shoppers" are going to try and haggle you down on the price. So price things reasonably - I had read at 75% off of retail and new items at 50% off of retail. Good luck - I made almost $300.:goodvibes

My daughter prices things at a cost she'd pay for the same/or similar item. Works very well for her too, & she saved the profits for WDW.
