DH has just been informed that the new software packages his company is using requires them to change from cable to DSL. I checked Verizon and it's not yet available in our area. Any other recommendations for providers?

what about at&t?? or the local phone company, we have it wih bellsouth but i am no sure who it is up in PA.

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else? I'm looking for some comments (good/bad) about your DSL carrier if anyone wants to share.

Oh I just thought of it you can also do that directv dsl thing, it comes right thru your dish? As far as good ro bad, i really havent had any problems with my bellsouth and i get a discount of $5 on my bill fo rbundling with my regular landline.

I have at&t, and it's pretty good. Once in a while we get disconnected, but not as often as lowband. And it's cheap. We are paying 15 a month for now.

That's strange that they would require DSL over cable. Securitywise the two aren't any different.

Are you sure that DSL is even available in your area? Not every area has DSL access. I think there are websites that you can look up if there are any providers in your area.

I've never heard of a company insisting on DSL over cable. I wonder why...
agnes!

If verizon isn't available there's a good chance that neither is any other provider. I can't get it at all, but my neighbor down the street (only 10 houses away) can. It's one of the must frustrating things ever. So much so that when we start looking for a new house, we won't consider one without access.

As for Hughesnet (the dish braodband) don't even think about it. it's almost $100/month!

Okay, because of this thread I checked again about DSL and I can FINALLY get it!!

So thanks OP and good luck!

About HughesNet...the last time I checked into it, the installation cost for the dish was *expensive*(at least $400 or $500, even with the famous $100 off!) Ack!

Plus, as harleyquinn said...their monthly costs are kind of expensive.

agnes!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Apparently DH's work associate was wrong and we can still keep cable! Whew!
