Help with Cricut

Hi Ladies,

I just received my cricut expressions yest and am having fun playing with it. This is the first time I have actually seen one in person and don't know anyone who has one to offer some help so I thought I would ask here. I have the Mickey and Friends cart and was wondering if when you make a character does it always cut out the whole character or should it just be cutting out the pieces that you need. I am unsure if i am doing this wrong and maybe need to hold another button down or if I am just supposed to cut out what I need from each whole character. I tried to make Chip and when it cut it cut the whole image not just the pieces for that color. (Clear as mud?) Any tips suggestions or is this what is supposed to happen. Thanks for any help!!!

You have to layer the pieces; it doesn't cut all at once. I took me a while to figure it out. The book (the one that comes with the cartridge) is your friend! Read it carefully and it will help you out. Good luck!

Yep. Each color is its own cut. I cut the black background first, then the colored top pieces. It takes a while, but they look So cool when they are finished! I decorated my door and window at POP with Cricut Disney characters on our last trip!

like the other posters said you should just be cutting the pieces you need. check out the book and it will have a step by step pic showing you what pieces to start with. look at your function keys and on the bottom it will say something like shoes and in the top right hand corner of the same button it will say something like hairbow. if you want the shoes then you push that button and it will light up then you push the character you are cutting. when it cuts it will just cut the shoes. if you want the hairbow you push shift then the function key and then the character. then it will cut your shoes. but if you don't push the keys in that order it will not work right. it took me forever to figure it out. hth.

I have been playing with the Mickey and Friends Cart. for a few days and have been having trouble with it. I think I should pay closer attention and make sure I am pushing the buttons in the correct order.

The characters I have cut so far look great!
