Help with borrowing question UPDATE post 10.

I have already banked my points for this year into next year. I had 42 points left, which I banked giving me 272 total for 2006. I have a BW view in October (first month of my use year) for 261 points leaving me 11 points. Here is my issue. There is a chance of an adults only trip in July that just came up. The only way to do it, would be to use points. Obviously they are all used up. My question is, could I borrow some from my 2007 year to be applied to my October trip, and free up some from 2006 to borrow into this year for July? Does that make any sense? I fear the answer is no, but I thought I should ask anyway, and member services just closed for the day.

With an October UY you could borrow those 06 points for that July trip...and borrow 07 points for your October trip. Just be aware the the 45 banked points can not be borrowed for that July trip. Only the 230 06UY points would be available.Hope this helped

Erika: I asked a similar question about swappign different kinds of points (borrowed v. current) all from the same resort. I was told by the board's resident experts that it was probably possible (although it might depend on whether there was a waitlist for the room you already reserved) in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1034109

Even if you can do it, you also need to think about the comfort level you have in using borowed points for your July reservation. If you need to cancel that trip, you will still need to use, rent or transfer the points before the begining of your Oct UY.

Thank you. I am sure there is a waitlist for my room, since it's Boardwalk view. I just thought of another way though, if I had to. I could just cancel my BW view room, book my July trip, then rebook my October trip with a preferred view instead. Of course this all depends on if my husband decides he wants to go or not LOL. I don't have a problem with the borrowed points, I am not worried about cancelling, once I book, I'm booked for good. We'd lose airfare if we cancelled which would probably hurt more than the points.

Call MS to see if you can borrow 2007 points then sub in the Oct reservation. All days may not be wait listed. You could also rent points or have them transferred in for the July reservation.

We had the same thing happen to us this year - had banked all of our 2005 points into 2006 and then had the opportunity to go down this last October. We just borrowed 2006 points for our 2005 trip and are using our 2005 points that were banked for our 2006 Christmas trip. You shouldn't have any problems.

But had you already made a reservation in 2006? That is where my problem lies, is that my points are already tied up. Oh well, thanks all for your help, I'm sure I can work something out. I am feeling much better about it now than I was when I first posted. Now off to work on dh...

Final update. I called MS at opening this morning. I have all my ressies set now. I was able to switch my October ressie to standard view, so I would only have to borrow 18 points instead of 63 points. In order to borrow them for October though, she did have to cancel part of my October ressie, book my July ressie with those points, then re-book the October vacation to use the 2007 points. Does that make sense? So the above posts are correct, that you can only do it, if your room does not have a waitlist.

On a side note, I was surprised to hear right at opening today that they had a standard view left, when right at closing on Friday I was told they didn't. I suspect the woman on Friday didn't really look. She seemed to find the answer way to easy and she was very short about it.

Anyway, dh and I are heading to the Boardwalk in July for 4 nights without the kids!!!!!!!!!
