My month for the pick is September and I need to pick a good book. We try to just get books from the library or borrow from others so we aren't spending money on a book every month. Do you have any good ideas?

Books we have read recently include:
The Help
Still Alice
Keeping Faith

Thanks!

I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb

Beaches by Pat Conroy

A Painted House by John Grisham

The Shack by William P. Young

All of my personal favorites!

Some of our book club's all around favorites:
Three Cups of Tea
The Kite Runner
Plain Truth
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
Tuesdays With Morrie
The Pact
We have read lots of current best sellers, but most of these titles you should be able to get from the library with little or no wait.:thumbsup2

Happy reading!

How about "Water for Elephants"? The movie is supposed to be released soon. We had a great book club meeting with this one.

not a book suggestion but you might want to look into all joining paperbackswap.com If you pick your books for a few months at a time, many members may be able to get their books this way.

Loved loved love "Water for Elephants" and also "The School of Essential Ingredients "

The Lost Symbol
Angels and Demons
The Da Vinci Code

All by Dan Brown - I suggest these because they will certainly give you a lot to talk about! Plus, they're just thrilling reads!

I also would highly recommend The Other Boleyn Girl, or any novel by Philippa Gregory.

The Four Seasons - A Novel of Vivaldi's Venice, by Laurel Corona was exceptional and emotional. Would be a great book club read too.

I have not been in a bookclub for years, but back when I was I really enjoyed "Plain Truth." But my favorite book was 'Nickel and Dimed" about a woman who applied for and worked a few jobs pretending she had no skills to see if/how she could live off of those wages. Fascinating and one of our best discussions ever!

These were some of our favorites too!
My all time favorite: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

I highly recommend "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. I've had some great conversations with other friends who have read that... and my hubby too! Superb book!

And of course the follow-up Catching Fire. You might find these in the young adult section of the library. The final book in the trilogy, Mockingjay, is being released the end of August, but I imagine there will be a wait for that one at the library. It doesn't cost much, though--I have it pre-ordered for under nine bucks. Oh, and The Book Thief is another book written for young adults that lends itself to lively discussion.

For the record, I am not a young adullt, and I do read "grown-up" stuff, but these books are all very good.

One of our favorites was the Guernsey Potato Peel Pie and Literary Society.

Our book club is reading "Loving Frank" this month. Good read! About Frank Lloyd Wright and his mistress.

Last month we read "The 19th Wife" This produced great book discussions. In fact we hardly chit chatted as everyone wanted to discuss this book!!

Other good choices:
The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown
The Help
Shangai Girls
Sarah's Key
Three Cups of Tea

When I was in a book club, the one that stuck the most was The Secret Life of Bees.

We also read Jane Austen Book Club, did not care for that, not many did. We Are All The Same, I missed this one. There was another one, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. That was different, I liked it but not everyone did.

This will sound odd, I was never required to read To Kill A Mockingbird. Have you read that? I am in the middle of it now and really like this book. Kicking myself for not having picked it up sooner.

For One More Day was an awesome book. I got in the habit of getting the books on tape and listening to them in the mornings while getting the kids ready for school. They listened to them also, that book stuck with my boys and they enjoyed it.

the kite runner
Life of Pi
Memoirs of a Geisha
Water for Elephants
Cane River

Those were some of our best book club discussions......this month we are reading One Thousand White Women.

I recently read " The 19th Wife" by David Ebershoff. It was excellent. It was about the origins of the Mormon church, polygamy, and a murder mystery all rolled into one.. very interesting.
