Help with AKL??

Hello....
Couldn't get a room on the Arusha savannah. Which Savannah is the next best?? Any other request should i ask for?

Um...how do you know you won't get a room on the Arusha Savannah? You can book a Savannah View room but you can't book a specific savannah as far as I know. Standard View, Pool View, Savannah View...that's it. You could request Arusha Savannah though!

The CM on the phone told me that Arusha Savannah rooms are deluxe category only. I'm in a standard Savannah room which means only sunset or uzima savannah. I was bummed for crying out loud you pay so much as it is for a room and they can't even give you the best savannah view.

That sound strange - most of the Savannah rooms face Arusha, and the deluxes are only the upper floors (they're slightly larger and include a daybed). They may have changed policies, but it might be worth calling again and asking. The first cm may have given you bad information.

At any rate, we've always had rooms on the Uzima Savannah and really prefer it. You don't get the zebra or ostriches, but you do get a great variety, and they tend to cluster closer to the balconies. On the maps, Arusha looks broad and open, but it has a lot of places for the animals to hide, or some corners they tend to not go into in clusters - just 1-2 at a time. The Arusha overlook also cuts the savannah in half, blocking your view. You might get good views if you are at the very end of the trails looking in, but that's quite a hike from the lobby.

You'll see giraffe on all savannahs, and they are good at getting the animals to move about - it's just that some areas are better than others. I think any savannah view room will be highly rewarding.

CMs at the desk have told me that they think room numbers x456 - 486 facing the Uzima savannah have the best views, which is what we've had. This is the pod off of Zebra trail where one side faces pool, the other side faces Uzima. That hall is great - steps away from pool and Mara, it's own elevator, and laundry on first floor next to elevator.

ditto...the only "deluxe savannah view" rooms are on the 5th floor I thought (larger rooms...some reserved for concierge)

Surise Savanah is actually nice...I found that alot of the giraffes liked to hang out over there...plus ostrich are fun to watch!

realy - don't beat yourself up over which savannah...they all have their perks and downsides...there are PLENTY of viewing areas around the resort to see animals.

The CM was incorrect. You CAN request Arusha Savannah. It's the largest savannah and the one you'd be most likely to get anyway, since more savannah view rooms face Arusha Savannah than the others. They are definitely not all deluxe rooms. AllEars has some pretty good info on AKL if you'd like to read over it. It may help you. There's also a MAP showing the room locations that I've found very helpful.
