Help with airline travel and DVC

Southwest just opened up their reservations for the first part of our trip. Currently we are scheduled for the resort on Sunday. We unfortunately cannot book the flight back home because it is beyond their booking window. I knew Sunday tended to be a more expensive day to travel, but it is about $70 more pp to fly on Sunday. Would you change your resort booking to fit the cheaper days to travel or would you just stick with your plan and book the more expensive flight?

since you are looking 6 months out you should know what usual prices are on sat and mon and if there is a major difference from Sunday AND work/school schedules allow it, shifting your plans by 1 day saves you $$ I say go for it!

I usually try to avoid flying on weekends. For our family of 5, leaving a day later usually pays for itself (hotel and food).

If our schedules allow, we usually will move our flight days to the cheaper days and adjust our resort booking to fit those days.

Southwest's booking site allows you to see the cost of flights on a daily basis, in a month view format. Even if your return travel day is unavailable, you can look at the previous 2 or 3 Sundays to see what the same flight costs on those days. You should be able to see any price trending and make a pretty good guess as to what the cost will be on your travel day.

It depends upon how many tickets.
Also, be aware that they have been cutting a lot of the weekday direct flights, so you might wind up with a connecting flight.

Is there a competitor to Southwest in your area, like Jet Blue? I'd price out a trip with them, if they are booking. That will give you an idea of what Southwest's pricing will be. Should you book the first night? Good question. My dates opened up this morning as well, the cheap fares for our return flight disappeared while I was entering my credit card info. The new pricing was nearly $1000 more) it was the Saturday following Thanksgiving...(don't ask...it is the only time some of our party can travel) Fortunately, we're half way between Austin and San Antonio, so I switched to Austin and was able to book the last 5 discounted seats! We're a party of 11 total, but 5 are flying, the rest are driving.
