Hi! Leaving for the world this week, and would like to try AE for the first time. I have 2DD's age 6y and 8y. Both enjoy scary movies, scary stories and sci fi. Have never had a problem with nightmares. Would this ride still be too much for them? I need help from AE Experts!! Thanks!!

I went on AE with my 10 year old niece, and my 12 year old nephew last month, and they were both frightened by the attraction. My niece was convinced that there was a real monster in the room. My niece laughed at parts of it, but my nephew was white knuckle teriffied by it. He held on to the arm rests for dear life.

I would suggest trying to go on AE without your daughters, and then decide if it would be too intense for them. I know it really depends on the kids' tolerance for stuff like that. Whatever you decide, just listen to your kids if they don't want to go on it. It seems like there are lots of parents who force thier kids on that. I have never gone on this attraction without watching parents dragging screaming kids on it.

Have a great trip!

Karen

When we first did this attraction my kiddos were 7 and 10. It was our first trip and quite frankly I didnt have a clue what it was all about. It was no problem for my 10 yr old--he has never easily scared but my 7 yr old was scared to death. I felt so bad during the whole thing (disclaimer--this was before I found the dis!! and all its great info).
But honestly its only scary the first time thru--after that you know what is going to happen and its no biggie. My 7 yr old has done AE on trips since then--though is no longer 7 ;) --he was only scared the first time.

Help...haven't had my morning coffee yet, and I've been taking care of three sick kids for days, so my brain isn't working quite right...What's AE?

I know I'm going to blush immensely with a "But of course"....as soon as some one replies, but I can't think of it at all right now!

Thanks.

SnoWhiteRabbit - AE IS Alien Encounter. Now is where you hit your head and say "Dang".

My 11 YO DD went on it for the 1st time this year and loved it. In fact went on it again with my DW. It really depends on the maturity level. If they can realize that its not real and that everything in WDW is for fun, then tey will be ok. There are long periods of darkness and great effects to make you believe that the alien is in the room. The line has been rather manageable, so my advice would probably be like Karen's, try it yourself first.

I'm just sad that we won't be able to enjoy it in April as they are closing AE:(

Ahhhh Ha!!:o

....Alien Encounter...I knew it would be soooo obvious, I just couldn't think of it!! We haven't done it, yet though - my kids are all little....probably not for a few more trips (They are 4, 3, and 1 now).

Thanks! (coffee's brewing....)

Listen to TLinden16: check it out yourself first. I'd have to say that the vast majority of children who appear to be in that age range don't deal very well with AE. If you can't go on yourself, at least wait by the exit and note the expressions on the faces of the little ones their ages.

Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you do it before Oct. 12, because after that Alien Encounter in it's present form is history. It will be closing for a rumored Stitch overlay. So, I'd try to make an effort to see it in it's present form, if possible. Have fun!

I don't know about an 8 year old, but my DD is 6, a daredevil when it comes to Rollercoasters and such, and there is no way I would let her go on it (not that we have a choice, since it's closing...) If your child has any hint of being afraid of monsters, the dark, or "things that go bump in the night" left in her, she probably will be terrified by AE. I've seen much older kids come out of it in tears.
