Its been quite a few years since we've been to Disney World. Now nanny & grampa are planning to come back for a few days this November, with our daughters & husbands & 2 grandkids (aged 5 & 3) -6 of us.
Looking for some input on the pros & cons of different Resorts - which maybe tend yo offer "best bang for the buck" without breaking the bank. And maybe some suggestions for same for hotels, resorts just outside Disney. Any advice, tips appreciated!

I think you'll run into some challenges in regards to recommendations as everyone's bank contains different amounts of bucks, without some narrowing down of criteria.

A) Is each family unit paying their own way?
B) Does each family unit have the same budget?
C) Is each family unit staying in their own room?

Without knowing any of these things, here are my two cents:

Favorite value- Pop Century, refurbed recently, skyliner access to DHS and Epcot
Favorite moderate- French Quarter for small footprint, boat to DS and access to amenities at Riverside
Favorite deluxe- I've yet to stay at this level, but my recommendations in no order are: Polynesian, Yacht Club, Wilderness Lodge and AKL (although I'd hold off on AKL until kids are out of strollers)

thanks sponica. the answers to your questions would all be "yes", btw.
The info. you is the type of info. I guess I'm looking for - comparing properties within different categories. I know its hard to pinpoint, but I feel we would like something in the "moderate" to "deluxe" range, as opposed to "budget", for this trip anyway lol...

Have you considered renting DVC points?

You can often get a Deluxe level stay for less than a Deluxe hotel room. A 1 bedroom or more villa has a fully equipped kitchen (dishes, flatware, bakeware, pots and pans, even wineglasses and corkscrew!) plus a stackable washer and dryer.

Another question: is this a once in a lifetime trip for the little ones? That may sway me to go for on-property or not. You would definitely find cheaper rates off Disney property.

November has become a busy month - don’t wait too long. Look at the DVC forum and consider renting points. We have been doing it for years and if you are set on staying OP it will say you some $$$.

Thanks. Can you give me a brief rundown on how this "renting points" thing works?

Just my opinion but unless all the adults are saints or on tranquilizers, there’s no way I would entertain a “villa” setting. At the end of the day I can barely stand sharing quarters with DH, let alone the kids/grandkids. In 2019 my DH stayed at Pop Century with adjoining rooms with DD’s family. The boys were 5 & 8 and their parents told them DH and I were old & needed our “ down time”! Stayed in a preferred room near main building. First time at a Value resort - I was quite pleased. Going back with them in June- staying at POFQ French Quarter. I

There is a DVC link here. Click and you will see the page that is all about DVC. You can find out how to rent point from owners using DIS rental agents. We have rented using 2 different DVC rental companies and it is very easy. Usually DVC owners are renting out points that are about to expire. You are paying for the points you use - your payment is to the agent and they secure your rental. I know that people here do rent directly from the DVC owner but we have only used agents. May is our 7th time renting. We paid $790 to stay in a studio at SSR for 3 nights (Saturday - Tuesday). In August we will be staying in a preferred studio at BWV for 7 nights for $2400. We are staying in studios and they are the least expensive but in 2015 we stayed in a 2bdrm at Kidani Village and still saved a lot. You do need to do your research, but the agents here are so helpful and the DVC resorts are lovely. You will have the extra magic hours at night, too. Good luck!

People who buy the Disney timeshare, Disney Vacation Club, buy points.

A night's stay in a DVC resort costs a certain number of points, say 19.

What someone wanting to rent an owner's points does is finds a person offering to let that someone use points the owner can't use for a stay at Disney.

Details on how renting works here: https://dvcrentalstore.com/

It's a good idea to go through a broker like this one. They help you find points for where you'd like to stay and manage the details, explaining as needed how it works.
