Help with a handicapp room at CBR

Hello all. We are going on the Disney Dream in May and are going to be at CBR two days before. So excited. My in-laws will be going with us. I have already booked us both a preferred room since they really don't like extreme amounts of walking at the resort. My mother-in-law is legally disabled from the goverment and is on disability. I was wondering if they have handicapp rooms in the preferred section of CBR and would she be eligible for one since she is legally disabled? I really would like for both of us to be very close, but I really need a ground floor room for them. Thanks so much.

All you need to do to get a handicapped room is to call and ask for one. There is no need for proof of disability.

What kind of handicapped room are you looking for? Do you need a roll in shower? Be aware that a roll in shower does make the "bedroom" a little smaller, and in general there are only King beds in a handicapped room with a roll in shower. Does she need a bath with a regular tub and extra handrails? Does she require a raised toilet? Does she need to use a wheelchair in the room?

This will give an idea of what kind of accessible room you require.

No, she does not need a roll in shower or any thing like that. In fact, they do need two beds, so I just maybe will roll with the punches. I just want them to have a ground floor room because stairs will be very tiresome for her. If they only have handicap rooms with king beds in them, I may just request a ground room floor at checkin. She is legally blind, but since she now has Medicaid she is having her eyes worked on. Praise the Lord!!! For this is a blessing in itself.

You can call and request a first floor room for medical reasons. Be sure that they put that on the reservation - for medical reasons. Especially with bad vision, being on the second floor would be very dangerous in the event of an emergency. But they can put that in as a requirement, not a request. That way you dont have to hope that they have a room open when you get there.

They will assign her a ground floor room with no problem for medical needs, as the other posters noted.
But, do be aware, if there is an extra charge for preferred rooms, she will not be given a preferred room without paying the extra charge even though she is disabled.
There are wheelchair accessible rooms scattered all over the resort and some are closer than others, but usually only those who have reserved a preferred room will be assigned one.

If she does not get a preferred room at admit, it would not hurt to ask at check in if they will be able to upgrade her to that area.

Sorry - I misunderstood and thought that you had requested preferred rooms and they had not. People in the past have thought that all the handicapped rooms were in the preferred area, so wanted to make sure you knew that.

What you want to ask for is a connecting room - adjoining is just close. Connecting means there is a door between the rooms.
If you are on 2 different reservations, call the same number you called to make your reservation and ask for the the 2 reservations to be linked. That way, they will know that you are together.
Whether it is one or 2 reservations, make a request to that same number for the rooms to be connecting or close to each other. The resorts are no longer accepting faxes, phone calls or emails for requests.
When you go to check in, you can check to make sure there is nothing closer if your rooms are not close by.
