Please let me know I hate briges if this can be avoided let me know. We are driving from ny - orlando on 95 :confused3 :furious:

Let's see, the George Washington, The Deleware Memorial, and there's a suspension bridge on the 95 Bypass (295) in Richmond. There's another long one in either SC or GA. And another in Jacksonville.

Those are the biggest ones. There's a ton of smaller over passes and such as well.

ok how big is the delaware bridge and the suspension bridge?

The Deleware Memorial is about the size of the GW. The bridge outside Richmond is probably about half the size of the GW. You can avoid both by taking longer/more congested routes.

In case tunnels are an issue for you, there is the Harbor Tunnel in Baltimore.

And remember around DC...
on the Eastern half of the Capital Beltway there is the Woodrow Wilson Bridge on the Potomac River crossing when you're travelling on I-95. *AND* there are some huge new flyover/landbridges at the Springfield Interchange(south of DC), where I-95/I-395/I-495 all converge. They're actually not bad once you get on them, but can be intimidating at first glance.
If you come around the western half of the Capital Beltway, there is the American Legion Bridge, but that is a much smaller bridge that the Wilson Bridge.
South of DC there are some smaller bridges, just south of where Route 1 intersects with I-95 near Woodbridge Virginia there is a bridge that is usually called the Occoquan River Bridge, but it might technically have another name.
There's also the James River Bridge.

I think the suspension bridge that ducklite referred to near Richmond is called the Varina (Narrows?) Bridge, but am not sure.

To the OP - bridges really cannot be avoided travelling between NY and Orlando. If your trip will take you down I-95 take a look at a map of the Eastern United States and notice the number of rivers that I-95 crosses, but after Richmond, the number of bridges does seem to decrease. I don't really remember any other major ones, other than the ones ducklite mentioned.

good luck :thumbsup2 ,
agnes!

We live in NW NJ and my father has found that taking Route 81 and 83 through PA and down to VA is much shorter (altough it looks a lot longer!) than taking 95. You can avoid a lot of traffic and the deleware bridge this way. You would also avoid all of those overpass type bridges in the DC area. Not sure where in NY you are coming from but this might be an option? Good luck

You can avoid the suspension bridge in Richmond (on 295) by just staying on 95 south. The highway markers always say to take this route, but it will actually extend your drive by about 1/2 hour unless it's rush hour. And (knock wood) us Richmonders don't have half the rush hour of cities like DC...thanks goodness!

There's some bridges up in Northern VA, but they're pretty small (compared to the Washington and Verizano bridges in NY).
