HELP who is calling me from 1-999-999-9999!

Thanks for some resolutions to this. The calls quit about 7pm but I bet they will start again around 5pm like they do everyday.

Thank Grumpy Pirate, you must be an electronics guru.

Can I buy that device at Radio Shack or perhaps places like Best Buy?

Why did they have to pick my number geesh!

Back before I used my cell phone often, I remember when I was at Disney and called my parents back home (with an AT&T calling card), the number would come up with 999-999-9999 on their caller ID. I remember that it would not show a 407 Orlando number like you might expect, instead had just all 999999999s!

Thanks for freaking me out! :lmao:

I just looked it up and it said that lots of companies use this number to keep you from calling them back or knowing who's calling. Blockbuster and several collection agencies use this number. Hopefully they'll knock it of soon!

I was getting all creeped out here, then page two reminded me that the only thing I have to truly fear is.... grumpy pirate's sig. :scared1: Run!!

A great way to find out who's calling from unknown#s: whocalled.us

:lmao:
I misread what you posted. I thought you wrote, "A great way to find out who's calling from the Unknown..." :scared1:

i've gotten the all 9's before too - it's been Blockbuster telling me it's time to return a rental

The line they use at my Dr's office to give test results comes up 999-999-9999 and also some telemarketer that calls from the PBA also comes up 999-999-9999.

A lot of collection agencies, telemarketers, and annoying people like that have those systems that Grumpy Pirate mentioned where it'll not only block their number from caller ID, but actually let them choose what number shows up. Over on creditboards, I've read quite a few times where someone's caller ID will have a friend or relative's phone number and when they answer, it's a collection agency. Sneaky. There are so many databases these people have that connect you to everyone and their brother that they choose someone who seems "close" to you and hijack their number so you won't ignore the call.

Sounds like you got someone that is just trying to mask their number.

I think a lot of telemarketers use numbers like this to get around call intercept. We used to have that and it would stop all calls with no caller ID #. They would get a recording that they had to announce who they were before they would be put through. Most would just hang up.
