Is it a better deal if they offer free dining or to use a potential 40% discount on the room?

Just FYI...last time we got the DDP, we didn't use it all, we weren't that happy with it--we often share meals and DD is more likely to order soup from the adult menu than to order from the child's menu, so I'm leaning toward the room discount rather than FD if it's offered. I can't figure out how to figure it out!

I think if staying at a deluxe, the 40% is a bigger savings!

:thumbsup2

and espically if you didn't use the DDP to its fullest extent then you were losing money on it. Free dining is always better than room discount in Value, can go either way in Moderate (depending on party size, less people in the room, particularly solo travelers will be better off taking room discount, after 1 person FD is usually the better deal), and can go either way on Deluxe (depending on party size and room type, the more expensive the room and less people in it then it starts to tip toward the room % discount being a better deal).

It's straight forward to figure it out...

To compare both FD versus 40%, you need to do the following by going to the site and pricing out:

a) A Room only reservation
b) A Package reservation without dining
c) A Package reservation with basic dining

Now compare:

C - (A * 0.6) <> B

Or in plain English, look the total for option A above (room only) multiply this by 0.6 to get the 40% discount on the room only. Now subtract this number to the total of option C (full package with dining) to get the actual total on a 40% promo.

You want to compare that number to the number you got from option B - a package without dining, since you will be getting dining for free.

Hope it makes sense, but it's not that difficult to figure out.

And if not, then post exact dates and type of room. I'm sure someone will actually price it out for you...
