Help, what printer to buy

I need a new printer. I am looking at the all in oness(print, copy, fax).
I would like to print pictures from it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the replys. I do have hp but mine does not cooperate at this time. Its a few years old. What hp do you own and do you print photos. If you do print photos how do they comeout? How often do you replace your ink?

The hps I have looked at take the 56, 57, 58 inkcartridges. These only hold 17 to 19 ml on ink. Thats whee hp makes the $$$$$. Has anyone injected refills into thesee cartridges?

I have an HP Photosmart 1000, now a few years old. It has performed fine. Prints picture very, very well, but I do contend, even the best home printer on the market today will not give you the quality of a photo lab. Great pictures at home on high quality photo grade papers, very good, but not a photo lab yet.

The supplies are where all the printer manufacturers make their money, not on hardware. Just like Gilette razors. As far as refills, I do not use my printer enough to warrant the aggravation, I just buy new cartridges.

Dan, I might disagree with you a little.

I think some home printers can rival those made at a photo store.

I think one needs to invest a little on the quality of the paper and the printer.

Your Photosmart is probably two generations behind the current technology.

Deciding to print something yourself or going to a photo shop or doing in online, is really a personal choice that involves many issues.

I am now using an Epson 2200 with Epson Premium Glossy paper and I would challenge anyone to tell me whether a photo shop printed it or I did it at home. The 2200 retails for around 700 dollars, but if you print a lot of pictures from a digital camera it will save you money in the long run.

Unfortuately, this doesn't solve the OP's question, but I just thought I would add my two cents regarding photo printing.

Just wanted to add...

My Epson 825 which goes for around 180 dollars does a very good job with photos as well. The ink used is not as long lasting as the inks used in the 2200..

Photo shops may have the advantage of longevity when compared to the 825 but comparable to the 2200.

We have a HP Photosmart 11** (I can't remember the number) and we have been very happy with it.

DH uses it more than I do for picture printing but I don't think I have heard him cuss this printer even once so far. It was a weekly event with our previous printer.

Thanks for the replys. I am considering the hp 2100 (I think thats the #s, but may go with next model down that does not have the slots for digital cards. I do not think they are necessary since I would rather down load to pc to get full scren. Am I missing some advantage?

Also how long do the ink cartridges last if you do prints?

I asked this same question about a week ago... I took Dan's advice and went to Best Buy and played with them... I ended up with an Epson stylus C62 for 79.99!! I don't have a digital camera but I print scanned pictures... It works great!! It has the the same ppm as the higher end just not the digital aspects... When I use Epson glossy photo paper with it, I would compare the pics to the professional ones that Disney sells from their professional pictures.
