HELP, what color would you paint the cabinets in a bathroom with a 1980s blue bathtub? Pictures !

My master bathroom has carpet in it. Now that was a weird trend. I'd love to replace it but other things have priority.

We also have popcorn ceilings that some idiot painted over so it won't come off like normal popcorn. I've been putting that off too.

anyone have any ideas for how to remove the mirror frame? It's glued on. I can't just paint the outside of it, the inside is also painted yellow and reflects in the mirror. :sad2:

Ugh. Could you paint it and then caulk around the inside? Or just get a new mirror?

That's very pretty, I'll keep it in mind if I screw up and break the one that's there. I'd rather not replace it if I don't have to.

I will definitely try caulking it, though. That might block some of the reflection.

I think I'm going to take the majority's advice here and go with white walls and cabinets. I bought some beige paint and have been watching countertop painting tutorials. I actually have some enviro-tex resin leftover from another project.

One thing about trends will 'never' sway me! I hate white cabinets in my kitchen - just a personal opinion, I know!!
I've always wanted light wood grain - on our house now, we opted for honey hickory, and after 17 yrs here, still love them. White comes in, then goes out, so one half the time, I'm in style!! LOL Doesn't faze me at all - I like what I like, as I'm the one that spends a lot of time there! :)

One of my friends used a countertop cover like this (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Instant-...=sem&msclkid=382dd63c517a16ffa2538dc189c2a7f7). It seemed to hold up fairly well and they didn't have to worry about paint peeling. Might be a good option if you're not sure what you want and can't find a replacement you like or fits your budget. You can often find used bathroom vanities for not to much that are in decent shape on places like craigslist or FB market.

That bathtub is truly atrocious! I like the previous suggestion of black cabinets. Annie Sloan chalk paint comes in annearly black called graphite that would be nice, especially if it's distressed.

A grey or white on the walls would brighten things up. The green on the counter is pretty terrible too.

Oh my goodness! I woulI choose to ignore the bathtub and get a really cute shower curtain to cover it up. I like the idea of a grey-blue on the walls and a mocha on the cabinetry. I would just recaulk the frame and paint it the same color of the cabinet. And definitely think about some kind of paint to cover up that green counter.

Also when we redid our bathroom, we couldn't give the mirror away. You can probably pick a cheap/free one up off of Craigslist if you don't want to deal with the mirror frame issue.

We had a master bath with the blue tub, toilet, double sinks and counter. Wood colored cabinet and large floral wallpaper . Blue and white small ceramic tile floor. We painted the wood white and the walls kind of a sea-blue/green. The light makes the wall next to the sink look more green than blue. The paint is exactly like the wall by the window. Painting helped sell our house. Paint was Little Boy Blu by Sherwin Williams. This bathroom was built about 1970. The shower surround was an off white tile (4x4 tiles). Kind of vanilla colored. Under the wallpaper was wood paneling and we filled in the ridges with mud, sanded it down and painted the walls.

I think I'd have to go with white. That way, white is the "base" and the blue sink and green counter are "pops of color" - which you can sort of get away with in a kids bathroom. Just hide the tub with a fun shower curtain.

I think the colors are cute for a kids bathroom! That said, I don't like yellow paint. Don't paint the yellow things white--with the blue sink and the green countertop white paint will look too sterile and institutional, like a hospital room. You will have to paint a warmer hue, like an off-white or cream color. Maybe oatmeal? Then you could do accents (like the frame of the mirror) in a darker brown, blue, or green.

Yep, this house was built in the early 80s, it must have been a show piece at that time. We have harvest gold in another bathroom. The base layer of wallpaper in the kitchen was orange, brown, and green and I think we had the pink and blue bird wallpaper a previous poster was talking about in my son's bedroom.

I'm sorry, this made me think of the Brady Bunch house!

I would go with white cabinet and light tan for the walls.

When we moved in our house, our upstairs bathroom had a lilac tub, sink and toilet. It was....lovely.

I think I would paint the walls and cabinets white. Paint the trim around the mirror and the strip in the middle of the wall blue to match the tub. Then add a wallpaper border or stencil paint designs around the top of the wall to tie the bathtub and counter top colors together. You can find lots of wallpaper border designs online. I've used them to cover up weird stuff the previous owners left behind in our house.

During high school in the early 80s, we lived in a house that was built in the late 50s, early 60s. It had three bathrooms. One had all pink - toilet, tub, sinks, and tile. The 2nd had all tan - toilet, sink, shower and tile. The 3rd had all baby blue - toilet, tub, sinks and tile. The kitchen was also pink - pink tile, pink wall oven, pink stove top, pink dishwasher and pink refrigerator with bottom freezer! Oh and the exterior of the house was pink stucco!!!

Wow, sounds like they had it all covered. My DH's first apartment was completely pink - all the bathroom fixtures, the kitchen appliances and tile, all lovely pepto pink. I loved it, him not so much.
