HELP! - We bought fanny packs!

sconnell said:
YEAH! I'm so glad that someone has benefited from this horrible thread I started! I love the packs we bought. I don't normally wear anything around my waist, but I'm tired of getting hit in the head with a bag on my back when I bend over. We take umbrella strollers and when the kids get out, if a bag is on the back of it, it goes over backward! lol. I'm PROUD to be joining the pack bregade. lol.
The title was meant to be tongue in cheek. We have always teased our parents about them and have finally matured enough to realize that many times, practicality wins out over "fashion." I actually think the ones that we bought look nice. Kind of like hiking gear. I'm glad you found it on clearance! WOW! What a deal! Maybe I should go ask if they have any in the back here! We got ours on sale for I think $10. But $2.97 is much better! :moped:

Yes, I am pretty excited about it. I left it in the car last night and was to lazy to walk out and get it LOL, so tonight I am going to load it up and see how much I can jam in there. ;)

Is yours black? When I saw your original post, I checked out eBay and there was a light blue one on there. The one we got is black and it has a BIG padded back to it, my first thought was it looks like one of those belts the pro wrestlers wear LOL. :rotfl:

We will still need to take a backpack with just the ponchos in it. Normally we would have a stroller, but this is our 1st trip without it so we can't toss stuff in the bottom anywhere, but at least we wont be carrying backpacks, camera bags, etc.,

Thanks again for the heads up!!! :)

Where can I buy children's fanny packs. Like for a 5 year old. I got me a pink one at Walmart for 4.50 and DH a black one. The strap is too wide for my son on it's smallest setting....

We got a grey (with black cording and all) and an all black. We (read I :rotfl: )decided to do that so that when they are laying together, we will be able to tell them apart easily.
Lisa, I just wanted to add that I've always enjoyed the pic of your family in your siggie! Beautiful family!

I going for knee surgery on the 22nd. I have had problems with ONE knee for 3 years due to sports injuries, I am 29 swim 2 hours a day and eat healthy food and portions. You have no idea how difficult it is to maintain a healthy exercise program when you are disabled and have mobility issues. (Obviously)
On another issue- Since when do we have to be fashionistas at Disney? Sorry darling but I dress for comfort! I would suggest apologising and possibly editing your thread. If not I think you will be added to several ignore lists. This board IS all about spreading the magic after all and being supportive of each other and our love for all things Disney! :grouphug:

I must say on a recent trip away I had a picture taken of myself in my bathing suit and my fanny pack. (I was holding parrots) We soon realized it appeared I had a... how do I put this- package. One that no female should have. It gave us quite a laugh. :)

Wow. Just opened this to see if there were any good tips for fanny packs and I got a lot more than I expected!

Go to www.coach.com and under handbags go to types then look for "across body" it's called a Swingpack. I always get so many compliments on it, and it is such a great bag you can wear it everywhere...not just WDW. It's great when shopping.

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure that if I walk around the parks wearing a Coach purse I'm going to look a lot funnier than if I have a fanny pack on.

I could get cargo shorts, but those are so 2002. Or was it 1999. I can't remember.

I could wear the big ole honkin' backpack, but that is so '80s. (I know, I was there).

I could just shove everything in my shorts pockets, but then I get a lot of varying types of looks from the ladies, and people hide their children when they see me approaching.

No, its probably best for everyone if I just break out my $15 WDW fanny pack.

I can even clip my Pal Mickey to it.

I hate fanny packs BUT I took one this trip. It was full--it was awkward to get in and out of--my cell phone would fall out when I had to open it for security. Eventually, my dd put it in her backpack. We took turns with the backpack and I preferred that to the fanny pack and I don't like backpacks either. Next time I'll get my own backpack or else not take the kids! LOL

So glad this thread has gotten back to the really issue--what to carry your stuff in at WDW! So, I now have a fanny pack (which I use for biking because its really the only thing you can use on a bike), a back pack and a my new "X-body" purse thing that I got for $30 at the Gap. I tested it out this weekend at home--I can comfortable fit two water bottles, wallet, camera, cell phone and autograph books and it is much more comfortable than carrying a backpack. So, unless it's threatening rain and I have to carry the ponchos, I am going with the in between X-body bag from the Gap! BTW, nine days from this moment, I will be at BWV strolling along the Boardwalk with my DS and DD! :yay:

The quote button is not working so
The poster talking about the knee brace and weight is just being incrediably mean.

I had surgery on my knee two weeks ago and my weight had nothing to do with my injury. If I had tried exercising my leg I would have made things worse. I say if she needed the knee brace to walk around WDW then who is he to say anything about it. Should a person just stay at home if they have a disability that people like him don't like?

By the way is your wife the fashion guru on this thread? Is that why you are being so hateful?

Good idea! I would have purchased both for sure at that price, even if they were the same color! I have to thank you again for posting this. This waist pack has become the highlight of my trip planning! Also, thanks about our picture, that was so nice of you. Your pictures are very sweet also, princess:

I'm not sure where to get children's packs, but the ones I've seen have been pretty small. On our last trip, my kids were 7 & 3, and they both wore adult fanny packs....I shortened the strap further by tying a knot in it. My DD is very thin, I tied 2 knots, one on each side, worked perfectly!

My goal this time is to scrap the back pack that I lugged around last time. We probably won't rent the stroller like we did a lot of the time before, so I won't have that to dump the back pack on. I'm trying to figure out how we can all just carry our own fanny pack and still bring everything we need. I also bought insulated water bottle carriers for each of us with the long strap to go over our heads. We put on our 'gear' this weekend to see, and we had a good laugh about how funny we looked! However, we are bursting at the seams for July to get here already, so we can head to WDW, fanny packs and all!!! :goodvibes

This tread was wildly helpful--it solved a huge problem for regarding what to bring to the parks to carry my stuff in, so thanks!!! :sunny:

When we bought my DD's luggage, it came with a small pullman, a backpack, & a kid size fanny pack. I had forgotten about it, but I'm going to go through the toy boxes to try to find it. This way, she can carry her own sunglasses & snacks! :cool1: She'll feel so big. lol.
BTW, it is a Samsonite set that it pink & purple with multi-colored logo (Each letter of Samsonite is a different color.) I don't remember where I got it, I think Big Lots, but it was $14.99. It's been at least 2 years and we have certainly gotten that much wear out of it.

You know, I find that I over pack for the parks. One day on our last trip, I took only what I thought were essentials, and I didn't even use all of that! lol. We do go back every day for a rest. (When we don't, we are all monsters!) So, I can restock then, if I need to!
Anyone want to share their "fanny pack essentials"?

Add me to the list of those who have bought fanny packs to wear at Disney. :thumbsup2 I got mine at the thrift store for $2. It is in new condition and I just threw it in the wash and it came out perfectly. I think I might stamp it with a mickey head in fabric paint to make it cuter :lmao: . I got a mickey head foam stamp at Home Depot and I am going fabric paint stampin' crazy!!!! I think all the wonderful DISers who don't care about how they look have the best self-esteem - true beauty comes from within!

We love our fanny packs and don't care if we look like dorks! Being able to do the parks hands-free without a sweaty back is tops! :thumbsup2 LOL!
You put it exactly how I feel. Now, my DD is rethinking a backpack as well. I think she is finally going to do it.

Don't say that, this is been great, I can't thank you enough! And I am all for your "Fannie Pack Essentials" idea. In fact I am off to start that now!!! :thumbsup2 That said, look for no replies because that is what happens a lot of times I start them. :guilty:

Well thanks to this thread... look what I just won on ebay...

We may still need to use a backpack for our snacks/ponchos and sunblock but I'm hoping I can fit my camera and medication in here...

off to find the new fannypack essentials thread!

Thanks to OP and DVCFamily. I too found one of those Old Navy fanny packs for $2.97. :cool1: I do have a smaller one that is really too small to be too useful and I have a much bigger one that is really too big. This one seems perfect.

I'm not sure I can get all I need in a fanny pack though. I purchased a mesh Nike backpack on clearance at Marshals for about $7. I used it on my last Disney trip and it was great. Easy to go through security with and didn't get too hot on your back.
