My DH is 66 and I am 59 and we are visiting WDW by ourselves for the first time ever. We have visited many, many times over the years with little guys and then bigger guys, but just us this time. We have done the dining play for the last few years and are doing it this August when we go. Again just my DH and Myself. We have dined at many restaurants in WDW and are looking for different ones this time for just us. We also like to explore new resorts.
We have never explored Wilderness Lodge and thought maybe Whispering Canyon Cafe might be interesting for dinner. Three questions -

1. We would be dining later maybe 8:00. Is it noisy at that time. A little noise it OK (we've seen the Disney videos on Travel Channel). Would we enjoy dining here.

2. We like to order a cocktail before dinner, do they serve them here.

3. Is there a cocktail lounge in the resort.

I don't want to sound like a party pooper but we do want to experience new placed at WDW but also want to enjoy our experience.

My husband and I (along with another 2 adult friends- all in our 50's) have dined at Whispering Canyon several times.

It's pretty quiet- yet still a bit "fun"- at breakfast, if that would be an option for you.
Dinner is usually pretty crowded and rowdy- but lots of fun. We get a kick out of watching the kids race their stick horses around the room. There are some more remote (read: quieter) sections in the restaurant that I suppose you could request when you check in- for a more sedate experience. The food is good too. You can do the all-you-can-eat skillet or order entrees from the menu.

Yes, they do serve "adult" beverages. And right next door is the Territory Lounge, which is a very nice place to relax with a drink before dinner at WCC or Artist Point.

If you want a Signature Dining experience at the Wilderness Lodge- try Artist Point. It is excellent! If you are on the DDP- it is 2TS.

And take some time to explore the resort a bit. It is a peaceful boat ride over from the MK. The lobby is magnificent. They even have a Hidden Mickey hunt- ask the concierge desk for the list. It's pretty hard- but takes you all over the resort. And walk out back by the pool and "Old Faithful." It is truly a wonderful place.

As long as the noise doesn't bother you (and you have a sense of humor), you'd enjoy it here. Also you can request to be seated away from the center of the action.

I'm pretty sure you can get cocktails here (may be more of the specialty drink type of thing).

WL does have a lounge where you could get cocktails as well. Definately have a cocktail and explore the lobby.

Have a great trip. :)

Whispering Canyon is pretty raucous at breakfast, lunch and dinner, between the stick-pony races, the wait staff banging their trays, the hootin' and hollerin', and the ringing of the dinner bell.

If you want something quieter, Artist Point might be a better choice.

:) My DH & I have gone to WDW many times by ourselves and are in your age range. Although we enjoyed Whispering Canyon, Artist Point was more to our liking.

My parents (dad is 66, mom is 62) had dinner together at WCC several times in 2007. They both really like it there.

Help, we are seniors,....................

Nevermind the "Help, we are seniors" stuff LOL:rotfl:

My DH turns 60 on 5/3 and I've told him it's the new 40! :thumbsup2

That makes your DH (46) and you 39!

Have a wonderful trip!:woohoo:

Gosh, thanks for all the input. We have eaten at 'Ohanas and enjoyed the atmosphere even though it was a bit noisy. I think we will go with WCC.

Hope you have a good time ! I personally view eating at WCC as "Cruel and unusual punishment" even though other members of my family enjoy it.

It is not quiet at all, but it is fun! F.Y.I...don't ask for the ketchup..LOL;)

We love WCC but we don't think its quite at all. In fact I think its noisier than Ohana. If loud is a problem for you then you should probably try something else. If you can deal with the noise, it's a fun place to eat and the food is good

BTW the lounge at WL is very nice but can get kinda crowded as it isn't very big. :earsboy:

I have to agree with you...We have 4 kids, and NONE of us liked WCC. As a matter of fact, the kids ate quickly, because they wanted to leave. It's the only place on Disney property that they beg NOT to go to!

They do have an area in WCC that is out of the way. It is a smaller eating area that overlooks the pin cart in the lobby. We were seated there once and it was much quieter than the main eating area. However, you can not see all happenings in the larger area from this seating area.

I am not sure that timing is ever what you expect...sometimes later just means kids are cranky because they have been pushed past their limits, and early might mean more families....but in better frames of mind;). Then again maybe not ! It is a "loser's" game to try and perdict.
