We are VERY familiar with DVC pts and booking at WDW, but are now looking to book a cruise in 2004 and have some questions. I know there is a point chart in the DVC member book, but it only goes up to a certain cabin/room category. What if we want to book a suite, like the Walt Disney Suite?? I know it will take a lot of pts and we are willing to pay for any difference if we dont have enough pts. I have heard you can do part points and part cash if need be. Thanks for anyones help!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

when booking through ms you have to book one person on points, and then you can pay cash for the rest of the family, or use points for your ressies. as far as the walt suite, im not sure you can book those through ms, you might have to call dcl and pay cash. you could always just call ms and find out, and if you do please let us all know, i would be very curious how many points you would need to book the walt suite:Pinkbounc

Does anyoen know if you can pay half points half cash for a single person after one perosn is already paid in full by points? Say for our kids or soemthng?

Just to let you know, I think those suites are filled up very, very far in advance.

Catagory's 1-2-3 fill up very fast.....usually 12-18 months ahead or earlier. So booking through MS doesn't give you the early booking window or discount you would get though DU or by using cash.
Booking through MS you can only book 11 months out.:(

lenshanem are you saying, for instance you have a family of 4 , 2 adults and 2 children,

you can use

points 1 adult and 1 child

- 2 adults-

- 2 children-

cash 1 adult and 1 child

-2 children-

- 2 adults-

you can use points for just 1 child and pay cash for the rest of the family.:jester:

wdwstar, yes we plan on doing the cruise ina couple years and we'll have to split between poinst and cash. Just wondering if we are short on points if say one of the kids we pay part poinst, part cash for thier fare.

And if anyoen has had experience with splitting poinst and cash what ened up being your bext option? Paying for the adulst with poinst or the kids? Or say 1 adult and 1 kid on points, the otehr adult and child on cash?

i just looked into the april 11 2004 4 day cruise cat 8
peak season

points for adult 154
cash for adult $1120.00

points child 13 & up 98
cash child 13 & up $750

points child 6/12 91
cash child 6/12 $620

plus $75 fee

i was going to book one person and pay cash for the rest
because i have ressies for easter at the bcv already.:smooth:

Thansk wdwstar. I'm confused about that 6/12 thing. Does that mean ages 6 through 12? What if your kids are younger than that? Are they free if you book through DVC MS?!? Cause I know through DCL itself they are not. It is a small fee for infanst then I think at 3 starst the charge.
If this is the case we need to go now! LOL

Let me clear up some issues in this thread. If you cruise with points, you must pay one entire ADULT with points. After that you can pay cash or points for each additional person but cannot mix points and cash for one person. You could not pay extra to make up for additional points for one person. You could pay one adult and one child or any comination after that. You also cannot use points for cat 1 or 2 I've been told. The points charts don't go above 4 and I've heard a rumor that you can now use points for a cat 3 but you must call DVC to get the actual charges but I'm not certain about this.

If you pay points for some and cash for some, you use the cost table that DVC gives you which is essentially always higher than the early booking prices. If you book ahead before the points table comes out, you are still committed to the cruise. I don't know how they'd handle it if you ended up not having enough points but my guess is they'd just get them from you later.

If it were I, I'd just make a cash reservation then decide at a later date whether to do points (or cash plus points) or keep the cash reservation.

This is Disney, nothing is free. Even a 2 month old infant has some cost. The 7 day cruise in 2003 is 19 points for 2 years and under, one price for children 3-12 and 13 and over are adults.

So are you saying that I can book a cruise today and then a few days/months from now I can switch the reservation so I am paying cash for one person and points for the other and still keep the same stateroom that I picked out with my original booking?

Do you think you should rent out your points and then pay cash for the cruise ? Is this cost effective ?

We are thinking about doing the same thing. Here is what I got from MS yesterday on an eastern 7 day cruise for regular season in a cat 6. 2 adults and a 15 y.o. and 10 y.o. Total with points would be: 751 pts. If I pay part points and cash here is what the charge will be.
1 adult on pts = 241 pts
1 adult= 1975.00 or 241 pts
15 y.o = 1145.00 or 151 pts
10 y.o = 945.00 or 124 pts

I can use any combinaton from the above. As for early booking the total cash price through DCL is $7,321.40 this price includes ground tranportation and Vac Ins. The total through MS does not. The Grd Tran would be an additional 49.00 per person. Neither price above includes air. I haven't gotten a quote from a travel agency so not sure if they can do any better on the price quoted from DCL site.

Also, on another note I was told that you can pay for your cruise with cash through DVC and when you have points available you can switch them over to points and get a cash refund. Since I just added on at SSR that is what I will have to do.

Yes it is cost effective. But you have to have trust in the renting party, and have the time to screen renters. It is a litlle of a hassle but you come out farther ahead and you can book your cruise farther out(18 months or father), get a rebate and on-board credit using DU.
Also you get a full refund if somthing makes you cancel your cruise up to 30 days before. Booking through DVC (MS) also costs an additional $75(or $95) just to book the cruise.

If you book a Disney Cruise through DVC, you must use points for at least one adult. You cannot book the cruise totally with cash there. The only time this was allowed, was last February for the special DVC Member Only cruise. :)

lenshanem im sorry , i should have listed the rest of the points for the children ages: i was going by what ms quoted for me for the cruise,

for that cruise points would be child 3/5 89 points
child 2/under 16 points

if you post what cruise and cat. and how many adults, children and age i will post how many points you will need for cruising in 2004. as for the cash per person only ms can tell you how much per person, because im sure it changes all the time:rolleyes:

I don't know which cruise your going but the price on icruise is currently $6626.00 for 12 & 26 June without insurance for 3 adults and child. If you booked through some sites, you would get a credit or extra discount. Sam's or Costco would likely be even cheaper. Had I booked this cruise back in the spring when we looket at it, it would have been about $1000 cheaper still.

That does bring up one major issue and that is that the cheapest time to book a DCL cruise is as early as possible. Anything else, whether it be DCL at 11 months or just waiting later to book by cash, is likely to cost you money.
