Hoping someone can pass along some good advice for dealing with a problem:
DH made a ressie for 8/23 - 8/26/07 on the HI Nick Suites site. Got "decent" rates, but didn't pay attention to all the "no changes, no refunds, no cancellations, etc." because the site guarantees the lowest rates. Use the same process for SW flights & car rental. However, when we found the $100 off thru Sept. 3 and called on it, they said we can't get that rate without forfeiting the entire cost of the original ressie ($800+)(!!) It's a surprise for our DS7, following our first ever cruise (Wonder 4 night). Does anyone have any advice for fighting this policy? Anyone have any luck before, name to pass on, etc.? Thanks for your help in advance, even if it's just to commiserate!

I knew about the non refundable rate through these boards. Otherwise I would have booked it when I called. The CM gave me the non refundable rate when I called and I asked if it was refundable. She told me no, so I told her No. My CM was not upfront with the details. She was stressing what a great rate they were offering. I'm glad I didn't book then.

I really hope things work out for you. I really hope they work with you. We are talking allot of money, and it's not like you are close to your travel date. You would think that they would try to make a customer happy from time to time. It's worth the good reviews.

I'm waiting for a deal for the end of October.

I am sorry you're disappointed. The $100 off is for Sunday - Thursday. I believe you only get $50 off for Friday and Saturday which your ressie includes. So you're not missing quite as much of a savings. My source is Travelzoo on this info.

I would call the hotel directly (not the 800 number) and ask to speak to the manager. Ask him about the "lowest internet rate" etc. See if he'll do anything for you.
Good luck!

Last year, when I booked with them I had called and was quoted certain rates. When I was ready to book I called and the rates were more than double. I booked at the higher rate but then I called back and spoke with the manager. He agreed to give me the lower rate I was quoted and I had no problems. The problem I see with your situation is that you booked a non-refundable rate. Usually when you do that they are very careful to fully explain to you that this rate is what you will pay, there will be no refunds and you cannot change your reservation. If they were remiss in doing that, then I would say you have a case. If they didn't do that, you could say you didn't fully understand what it was you were booking and that you never would have booked non-refundable, etc. BTW, even advance pay, non-refundable is refundable if you have a death, illness that doesn't allow you to travel or cetain other situations. It is worth trying the manager, but you may just have to suck it up. Good luck!
