Amen, sista, Amen!! I wouldn't have survived chemo without Petey to curl up next to me and lick my nose. When you've laid in bed for hours sick while Dh is at work, that little puppy can be your only source of company. No human will ever be so loyal and devoted.
You know it. Reilly has seen me through more flares where I lose the ability to walk, move, even change positions in bed. He will go an entire 8 hour day without eating, drinking or going out if I am bedridden. He will just lay right there with me with his head in my hand.
And if it weren't for that little bugger, I may not even be here right now. September of 05, I was in WDW doing GPA3 with AZJazzyJ and I got really sick the last couple of days. By the time I got home, I wasn't feeling like moving at all. I chalked it up to overdoing it in florida since Jeff and I were running from dawn to dusk and took a couple of days off from work to recoup.
At that time, Reilly was "Daddy's boy". But that little dog all of a sudden took an extra interest in me. He kept laying with his head on various joints on my body and would refuse to allow Matthew to remove him. His behavior was eerie. So much to the point where I decided that I should go ahead and call my Rheumatologist and get in to see him. He worked me in the next day and did some bloodwork. It came back from the labs in a matter of hours flagged critical. All of the muscles in my body were failing (and of course with the heart being a muscle - yikes!) I was out of work for 2 months. God knows what would have happened if Reilly hadn't acted the way he did.
Ever since then, he has been my constant shadow. He is Daddy's boy no more.

. Now he is a full fledged Momma's boy. He still can anticipate a flare coming for me and gently warn me to stay in bed and ride it out.
Of course, his labor does come with a big price tag

He insists on going shopping with me whenever I go out somewhere other than work. Thank God Richmond is one of the most Dog friendly cities in the country and we even have a mall that allows dogs and stores like Yankee Candle, Dillards and Michaels that love for him to visit. He even gets special treats from the Godiva store

(NOT chocolate.

) Most recently they opened a Three Dog Bakery in the mall and he is in 7th heaven with gourmet baked cookies on site. Shug, you need to bring Petey for a visit!
I'm so glad that it looks like they're going to be fine, I was worried about them all night. I know how much dogs can mean to someone too, when Bogart went through his tumor scare this year I was a wreck.
Ash, I am so glad that Bogart is okay. I would be a wreck going through what you had to with not knowing.
