HELP!! VETS! Dog People!! Update pg 2!

Oh my!! How are they today? Petey has eaten an entire chocolate bunny and lived to tell the tale. He looked pretty darn smug and pleased with himself too. $220 and a vet visit later he wasn't looking so smug. He still tries to steal chocolate whenever he can though. He and I both hope his twin brother feels better soon.

My cocker Cookie stole a large bag of M&Ms and ate about three quarters of them. This was on a Saturday afternoon. She was sick all day Sunday so Monday morning we took her to the vet. She was dehydrated and had to have supplemental fluids. After that she perked right up.

It didn't stop her from hunting chocolate though. She would have thrown herself from the roof for M&Ms.

I hope your doggies are going ok. Maybe try letting them outside to eat some grass. Usually animals will eat grass when they have upset stomachs to induce vomitting.

My dog Ally once ate an entire box of Russel Stover chocolates. Sugar free ones too! :faint: She basically spent the whole day outside. She still tries to steal chocolate whenever she can. I guess she'll never learn. Actually, all 3 of my childhood dogs ate their fair share of chocolate and lived to tell the tale.

Hey, this is Lauri :)

I'm home with the furry chocolate theives now. Matt had them with him this morning.

Hailey and Suzy are fine

Tinker is still a tad bit green around the gills but she'll be fine

Reilly has bouts of acting like nothing is wrong to playing "sick puppy" with mommy where he rolls over on my lap and moans until I rub his belly. :rolleyes2

I did give them a small dog treat before I left and everyone but Reilly held it down. Reilly threw it right back up. I had Matt boil them some plain rice a few hours later and let them eat some of that and they were able to keep it down - plus they thought it was gourmet (dogs..plain minute rice is the bomb - go figure)

Matt did say when he let them out in the late morning that Reilly did have a pretty "metallic" poop so I think the wrappers are through. :lmao: I was worried one of the "Hershey's Kisses" papers might get caught as a dingleberrie coming out the back end. ;)

Anyway, he's sound asleep on my lap as I'm typing this - keyboard balanced on his butt, his head resting on Christmas Cardinal baby (yes, he knows his babies by name... darn dog is scary smart) How can you get mad at something so daggone cute?

Shug - well Petey and Reilly will have something new to compare notes on with each other next time we see you guys. :rotfl:

Over Christmas Petey made a snack out of some tinsel. About 24 hours later it reappeared out the other end. It was :lmao: until I figured out he couldn't get it to come all the way out and I had to get down there and pull. It's amazing he didn't wind up with an intestinal blockage.

We're glad Reilly feels better. I'm sure Momma feels better now too. It's amazing how these little 4 legged creatures become our children when we can't have human babies of our own isn't it?

It sure is amazing. And its amazing how close the bond can be when you are sick and depend on them for comfort in the hard times - and how willing and selfless they are giving it to you. :goodvibes

Amen, sista, Amen!! I wouldn't have survived chemo without Petey to curl up next to me and lick my nose. When you've laid in bed for hours sick while Dh is at work, that little puppy can be your only source of company. No human will ever be so loyal and devoted.

I'm so glad that it looks like they're going to be fine, I was worried about them all night. I know how much dogs can mean to someone too, when Bogart went through his tumor scare this year I was a wreck.

You know it. Reilly has seen me through more flares where I lose the ability to walk, move, even change positions in bed. He will go an entire 8 hour day without eating, drinking or going out if I am bedridden. He will just lay right there with me with his head in my hand.

And if it weren't for that little bugger, I may not even be here right now. September of 05, I was in WDW doing GPA3 with AZJazzyJ and I got really sick the last couple of days. By the time I got home, I wasn't feeling like moving at all. I chalked it up to overdoing it in florida since Jeff and I were running from dawn to dusk and took a couple of days off from work to recoup.

At that time, Reilly was "Daddy's boy". But that little dog all of a sudden took an extra interest in me. He kept laying with his head on various joints on my body and would refuse to allow Matthew to remove him. His behavior was eerie. So much to the point where I decided that I should go ahead and call my Rheumatologist and get in to see him. He worked me in the next day and did some bloodwork. It came back from the labs in a matter of hours flagged critical. All of the muscles in my body were failing (and of course with the heart being a muscle - yikes!) I was out of work for 2 months. God knows what would have happened if Reilly hadn't acted the way he did.

Ever since then, he has been my constant shadow. He is Daddy's boy no more. ;). Now he is a full fledged Momma's boy. He still can anticipate a flare coming for me and gently warn me to stay in bed and ride it out. :)

Of course, his labor does come with a big price tag :rotfl: He insists on going shopping with me whenever I go out somewhere other than work. Thank God Richmond is one of the most Dog friendly cities in the country and we even have a mall that allows dogs and stores like Yankee Candle, Dillards and Michaels that love for him to visit. He even gets special treats from the Godiva store :) (NOT chocolate. :rotfl: ) Most recently they opened a Three Dog Bakery in the mall and he is in 7th heaven with gourmet baked cookies on site. Shug, you need to bring Petey for a visit!

Ash, I am so glad that Bogart is okay. I would be a wreck going through what you had to with not knowing.

Three Dog Bakery??? WE ARE THERE!! Petey LOVES their stuff! We used to make trips to the one in the French Quarter when we lived in Biloxi. Maybe later this month we'll come up for a day of thrift storing and gourmet doggie treats!

You got it. One poodle play date for later this month ;) Petey will love Stoney Point Fashion Park. What poodle wouldn't love an entire mall that loves to see him walk through the door ;)
