Anybody have any suggestions or recommendations for getting married on the beach at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort or at the resort itself? They don't offer wedding planning assistance so we'll be arranging everything on our own.

We are DVC members, but haven't been to Hilton Head so would like to hear where on resort grounds or the beach you think would be a good spot for the ceremony.

Our entire group will be only 20 people. All will be staying at the resort. We also have our own officiant.

I've often seen wedding taking place on the beach here. It's a public beach, so anything goes. Most of the time you'll see a lattice arch set up for the bride and groom, along with chairs for the guests. I'm sure some local rental companies are used to doing/planning this. Not sure what time of year you are planning, so keep sunset in mind, along with the tides! At high tide you'll have very little beach to work with. Also, because it's a public beach, you'll see some people wondering around in the backround. It's a beautiful way to go though.

If they would allow it, it would be beautiful to get married on the pier at the resort. You would have to clean it up and put some flowers and/or material. It would be really nice. :) Good Luck.

Did you try calling directly to the front desk at Disney's HHI resort. or did you call MS only? I would guess that the front desk might be able to give you some ideas-the CMs there are so nice. Also, there's a gentleman who has a website who got married at the Disney HHI resort several years ago. I don't have the link, but I think his name was T. Towery. I wonder if there's contact info on his website? Good luck! I always think that if DH and I had gotten married several years later than we did, the fishing pier at HHI resort would have been a great place for it.

Don't have it on the beach at High Tide. There isn't much beach at high tide....trust me. :)

Don't do it between April 1 and October 15th (rough guess anyway) Weather around here is VERY unpredictable during those dates.

If you do it in the evening, be prepared for the No-see'ums. Skin So Soft is best.

Get Joyce to make burgers for the reception. She is the best cook!

Yes, we did contact the resort directly. They said it wouldn't be a problem holding the ceremony anywhere at the resort as long as we understand there would likely be other people in close vicinity since all areas of the resort are public and there aren't any spaces that can be reserved for a private function. We're okay with that since it will be a very small wedding and most park/beach weddings have that issue. We're really looking for suggestions from those of you familiar with the resort as to the most romantic/scenic spot for the actual ceremony along with ideas for group activities in the few days leading up to the event.

Haven't had any luck searching the web for any weddings actually at the resort.

Hi! I actually work at the Disney Hilton Head Resort in recreation, but I am a certified wedding planner now also! I have worked a couple weddings on the island, including one on the beach, so I have a little bit of experience with it. Anyway, I have sent the information to my manager and he is going to see if there is something we can do to help you guys! I would love to do anything you need to help plan and prepare for your wedding on the island. I have information for beach weddings here and will let you know what is decided between the managers as to having it on the resort. From what I have read, they are right that we are not able to shut down any part of the resort for a private event. I will get back to you soon!

That is great info and thanks for sharing and welcome to the DIS. We love the resort as do many others around here.

Hope you stay around and join us in discussing Disney's HHI resort. :thumbsup2

You know the area right behind the main lodge would be a nice area for a small wedding IMO. It is usually not very crowded. It is not a large area but fairly private. And it has a very nice view. Also, there is the area beside the lodge. My concern about the pier would be other people. Folks walk out on the pier all the time and all it would take is one upset guest to ruin the whole thing.

With only 20 guests, I'm sure you'll have plenty of room for all your DIS friends!

Alex, thanks so much for pursuing this for us! I'm actually the mother-of-the-bride. My daughter will be excited to hear you're trying to help us out. Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Wolfpackfan, thanks for the location suggestions. Not having ever been to the resort or even the island, it's impossible to picture where a nice spot might be. I thought the same thing about the pier. I checked out your HH photos. I'll be sure to share them with my daughter and future son-in-law. Thanks for posting them.

Simba's Mom, you know what the say . . . the more, the merrier!

That is a nice quiet spot. I like to go there to relax and reflect.

If you are interested I am a pastor and have done my share of weddings. We will be there vacationing the week after christmas and again in early June.

We are relocating this thread over to our DIS Weddings Board...good luck in your planning! :)
