My DH and I are at a loss :confused3 we are trying to come up with DD's BIG Christmas gift... we like to get her one BIG gift every year and then just a few little things... but we are at a loss this year... Like to have it be under $400.

A little Background - she is all thing Girl... Loves princesses, hannah, dancing, music.... We prefer to get her something to keep her active you know not another video game system. She is 5 (will be 6 in January)

She already has: Wii, Play Kicthen, Laptop (she is getting this this year from her great grandparents), Vsmile.

Her list to Santa: DS (decided against this because we want to keep her off the couch a little bit), A puppy (no - LOL ), Cup Cake Maker (ok I would rather just make real ones with her, Zhu Zhu Pets (shes getting 2 from her great grandparents and I will get her the accessories to open at family christmas)

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about an American Girl doll? My daughter is almost nine and got her first one when she was four. She still spends hours playing with them. The dolls are pricey (about 95.00) but you can get a bundle on QVC or buy accessories at Target and Michaels. They are so much fun and gives her an opportunity to use her imagination. Good luck.

My five year old DD is getting an American Girl doll. She asked for it. She also wants various video games and her new thing now is an easy bake. I have to agree though, I don't want her playing a bunch of video games and I rather just bake with her.

what about those power wheel ride on toys. My boys loved them, my nieces also when they came to visit.

this is just an opinion, but if you cant figure out what to get your dd then maybe she has too much stuff.:confused3

An American Girl doll is a good thing at that age or even Bitty Baby if she is into baby dolls. Otherwise get what is on her list and save the $ for college or later. Trust me the cheap years go fast and then the Christmas list is very expensive.

A bike, trampoline, a huge doll house.

I understand your problem my son dosent get a lot and dosent have a toy overload issue but we are just at a loss this year. He's not like other boys he's only 5 but not into the normal legos, trucks, action heroes etc. Besides Toy Story toys I'm at a complete loss.

At that age we got ours the Playmobile mansion dollhouse, then some furniture, people and animal add ons. Two years later it's still one of her most played with toys.

What about a new bike and helmet? Santa has brought a bike to both of our kids at about that age - when they are ready to move up to the next size. Active, fun, useful and something you will probably have to buy anyway.

Since it was the "big" gift for them, we spent a bit more on a nice bike that will last for years.

Our kids got scooters last year (just the inexpensive Razors when they were on sale cheap). They have used them a lot. This was for DNeice8, DS7 and DS4. If she doesn't have one, you could buy a nice one with a new helmet (if she doesn't have one).

Does she have a nice desk? She is borderline reaching the age where she might like having her own desk to do crafts, homework and just have her own space.

There are some great craft kits out there. Shrinky Dinks, paint sets, pot holders, pottery wheel, scrapbook stuff. Just go to a craft store and scan the aisles.

Would she like legos? They have pink/purple girl lego sets with horses and things. I know starting to get smaller here.

Season pass to local theme parks/zoos etc.

Bedroom remodel.

DD got her 1st AG doll last year (when she was 5 and a 1/2) she got the Kit bundle (ordered from QVC) ~ this year she's getting Chrissa from me and Gwen & Sonali from "Santa" or maybe Chrissa will be from Santa ~ I'd love to get my kids a bike or a tramp but with us being in N. UT those things are pointless from mid Dec - early March (I suppose a bike could be ridden on a clear day, when sidewalks are free of snow) ~ DS's B-day is in April ~ I'd love to get him a trampoline, we recently moved into a new to us home and have a huge backyard, it will at least have an enclosure, ideally we'd dig a hole for it :scratchin. DD will need a new bike (her B~day is in July) DS got a bike for his B-day this year.

dd was a little bit younger than that when she got her first AG doll - a Bitty Baby. 2 "real" AG dolls later, it is still Bitty Baby she plays with the most and travels with on adventures.

DD is getting a Doll House and the Playmobile Vet Set. These are her big gifts. We got the puppy last year and some how she became my dog. :lmao: I do have to say though that the puppy got everyone off of the couch because she loves walks and needed to go out every 2 hours.

A new bike or scooter is another good idea or playhouse for the back yard.

Perhaps Santa could give her some real kitchen tools:
- an apron (maybe with a matching one for mom)
- a mixing bowl
- a spatula
- potholders
- measuring spoons & cups
- Recipes for cupcakes and frosting (with pictures for a non-reader) or box mixes
- a muffin pan
- some pretty cupcake wrappers
- some sprinkles

She still gets the cupcakes she wants from Santa, you get to help her use it in the real kitchen instead of another gadget toy. She could use the real items in her play kitchen as well and when she is bigger, she's got them for her first apartment. I also like the top view liquid measuring cups from OXO. They have markings inside so you can read it from the top instead of through the side. It is really helpful with kids who are "helping" in the kitchen.

Another idea: How about some type of lessons (dance, gymnastics, whatever) or a membership to a local kid-friendly place (children's museum, zoo, etc). Nothing to store, fun, and not on the couch.

Our almost six year old, very girly twins are getting American Girl Dolls. From the responses here, it seems to be the age.
