Hi all!! This is my family's first trip to Disney!!! I have a question about packages vs rooms....We are thinking about staying at CSR or AOA and I was planning on booking just the room, but from what I have read if you add DDP you have to rebook and don't get a discount.... (assuming I will get a discount)
Here is my problem..through my TEA discounts I can get tickets for the parks at a great price (about $50 off per ticket), so I had planned on purchasing them through that website. Now my question is that if I book the room can I just add the DDP or do I have to add tickets too??? I sooooo need help!! LOL I have been reading forums and researching since May and feel so overwhelmed!! Thanks for any advice you all can give me!!!

OK unless you have Annual Passes or are a DVC member staying on points you do have to book a package with tickets in order to buy any of the dining plans. That isn't to say that you wouldn't be able to get a discount on the room part of your package equal to the discount you have now, usually when Disney offers a room only discount, they also offer a package discount too.
I usually figure we can save about 20% on the dining plan. So look at the dining plans and some menus and see about how much you think you will save and then look at how much you can save buying your tickets elsewhere and compare the savings.
Happy planning!

In order to get the DDP, you must purchase at least a 1 day base ticket for everyone on the reservation. But there are some exceptions. AP holders can book an AP + Dine package without purchasing tickets and DVC members staying on points (and anyone who rents points for their stay) can get the DDP without the ticket requirement.

Something else to consider - if you book a package, it must be paid for in full 45 days out. If you book a room only you don't have to pay in full until the day you arrive. I don't know what the deposit is for a package, but a room only is the price of one night.
