I need help. We are leaving Tuesday before Thanksgiving to drive to Vero Beach. I am in north Jersey so Vero takes me about 21 hours. We were going to leave around 12p(pick kids up at school early), hopefully make it to SC and get to Vero on Wednesday by 4p. I got a $197 airfare on Continental this morning so it would be $985 to fly versus $600-$700 to drive. I would also add that I would have to rent a car for Tuesday -Saturday (another $150). I really like to drive bit I am panicking about the traffic because its Thanksgiving!!

So its up to you.Help!! Should I spend the extra money or just hold my breath with the traffic??? I need some guidance, oh yeah did I mention I hate to fly :scared1: !!!

If you can get a very early start Wednesday morning you may not be too bad. After noon or so things on I-95 will get crazy. I-95 in Florida has been widened to 3-lanes each way through Daytona Beach, except for Flagler County which is just north of Daytona. Where the 3 lanes merges into 2 there likely will be long backups. If you can get through that then things will be heavy but should be moving. Can you make it the first day to Savannah? Then you're only about 2 hours to JAX and maybe 3 hours to that backup point.

And hopefully you're not driving back on Sunday!

PS-I think you can drive it for less than $600.

Thanks king Bob! I have driven it many times and prefer to drive but I am panicking over Thanksgiving traffic. My $600 included hotels on both ends.If I flew I could add a room on thru DVC and use my points.

When I was playing with the air again I actually got $177 rt for Tuesday afternoon and I am returning on Dec 2. So I grabbed it because the air for the 5 of us is now$885!! Its a great price for Thanksgiving! It'll be easier to know I will be there in 2 1/2 hours instead of 20. Thanks!!!

Yes, that's a great price for Thanksgiving weekend! Considering the value of your time (and that you get to spend the extra time in sunny FLORIDA, that's money well spent!

We appreciate your business!!

Got your PM and hopefully you got my response.

We are about 12 hours away and I hate to drive. We have only driven once and have flown the rest of the times. I dont like wasting the time it takes to drive when I can be down in Orlando in 2 hours by flying. I cant even imagine driving 21 hours- no way. Glad that you got some airfare you are happy with. Last year we got roundtrip airfare on SW for $74 per person (flew out the day after Thanksgiving). 8 of us flew for $599!! Wish I could see that kind of price again. This year it is double at $153 on Allegiant. Oh well, its better than driving.
