I was in an accident in January and took the advice of all my friends that I will share with you- GET A LAWYER!!! You will be told not to make ANY statements with or for the other person's insurance company, not to discuss your case with anyone, and esp. not online. You shouldn't have to settle for less than your car was worth and there are many things that you should be reimbursed for that you likely are not aware of. Ask trusted friends or co-workers if they have a recommended lawyer and go there asap. Really. I thought I would just let the insurance companies take care of me and almost made a huge mistake. They aren't out for your best interests. ---Kathy
). The settlement on the car is negotiable, if they are offering you a lower price you can do some research on KBB or Edmunds and try and get them to up their offer. You can also demand they help you find a comparable replacement. Insurance companies like to lead people to believe that they are helpless and at their mercy, but it doesn't work that way. You DO have rights, and you DO have some power here. Just don't sign anything without consulting a lawyer first.
