My DD 10 has been on Zithromax for 3 days. She woke up and hour ago with severe stomach pain.

Is there anything that can relieve the pain?

Ahhh I had that problem it's no fun! Give her some gingerale and she will just have to wait it out. Call the Dr in the morning though, they took me off of it when I got sick like that.

Hope she feels better!

Ginger ale and dramamine or gravol if she is nauseous. An antacid might relieve pain if there is a burning sensation.

I had arithromiacin once when I was in grade school. one dose of it made my stomach hurt in an indescribably horriffic way. I can't take arithromiacin or azithromiacin because they are so close chemically...

azithromiacin = zithromax = "z-pack"
do her a favor and get her on a different antibiotic, if it's like what I had it won't go away until she stops taking it, and the pain is not worth it

I get annoying stomach pain when I take Zithromax. It usually doesn't hit me until day 3 and then I suffer on doses 4 and 5. Each day gets worse. It's not bad enough that I can't function, but I won't lie, it's darned uncomfortable.

If it is so bad that she can't function, you may have to change meds but is it possible that she can tough it out for two more doses?

Thanks so much, everyone. It's been some night! DD 10 was up from around midnite until 4 AM. After she threw up she felt alot better. Needless to say, she is staying home from school today.

She was on the Z-Pak for a sinus infection. As a matter of fact, the doctor prescribed 2 courses of Zithromax-with a week in between.

So that's NOT going to happen. There has to be another medicine.

My doctor game me zithromax a few years ago, it made me so dizzy I couldn't stand up! I called the doctor and he said he'd note the chart so that I didn't receive that prescription anymore. So, make sure you call your doctor to let him/her know of the situation!

I just took Zithromax last week for a sinus infection. Well, the first three days my stomach was so sick, it was worse than the sinus infection. But, by day 4 both my stomach and my sinus infection felt immensely better. I think the next time the doctor prescribes Zithromax, I will probably ask for something else. DD 10 is pretty young to be putting up with a sinus infection and stomach pain, so I am sure the doctor will try something else. Hope she feels better soon.

Probiotic yogurt will help as well as acidophilus pills from the health food store. They do carry the pills in other stores but you local hfs should carry better ones!!!

Is this for the side effect or the sinus effection?

WhenEVER I take any antibiotic, I get belly aches - cramping horrible ones, always.

UNTIL - someone told me to eat yogurt when I take it. And now that they have that Activa one - I only have to eat one of those a day and it's fine.

Try it - it works almost instantly and wonderful. :thumbsup2

This is for the side effects form the antibiotics.
Actually whenever you take any type of antibiotic you should be eating yogurt and/or taking acicophilus pills too! It will also cut down on a woman's risk of getting a yeast infection from being on the antibiotics!

Ever since I was a teen, I used to get severe stomach pains and other not so lovely side effects due to antibiotics. I make sure that when anyone in my house is on antibiotics, they take acidopholus pills. I was told that they should not be taken together with the antibiotics, but should be spaced at least a half hour from taking them. Lots of yogurt helps, too, though not as well.

Thanks again for all the help. The pediatrician prescribed Omnicef. The pharmacist said my DD 10 should not have a problem with it. To be on the safe side, he recommended that the med be taken with food. But, I am taking the advice from my fellow Diser's, too. After I drop her off at school, I am picking up those acidopholus pills.

Her appetite is off, too. I hate allergy season.

Please, any more tips or advice is happily accepted!
