Can anyone help a fellow DISer from across the globe that isn't familiar with spring break. Im trying to plan a trip, in either March or April, but am unsure when spring break falls. I understand that it varies from school to school, but I cant seem to find an approximate date. I dont even know how long spring break goes for. Whilst searching online I have found various places that all say different things.:confused3 One site says spring break is generally held in march before Easter weekend, one says that it is held in April, after Easter weekend. Im so confused! Any help clearing this up would be greatly appreciated!!:)

Most of the schools here in California usually take their Spring Break during Easter week (the week right before Easter). Some schools however, especially in SoCal, are taking a 2 week Spring Break this year and will straddle the Easter holiday. I believe though that the busiest week will be the week before Easter. I hope this helps!

There is probably a good month of "Spring Breaks" that occur because each school district has different schedules. I don't know when the first week of Spring Break starts for any schools, maybe someone else knows the schedule?

I'd say in general the whole "Spring Break" period starts in early March and goes through mid-April. Most schools out here (Arizona; California's neighbor) only get 1-2 weeks off for spring break, though some schools are "modified year-round" so I guess they could get 3 weeks. As others have said, it's not really like Christmas/winter break, where all schools are off for a more or less set period. You can think of spring break as kind of staggered because different schools get different periods off.

If you don't want to hit any "spring break" period at all, I think late April would probably be the time to do it. But then the park hours will probably be shorter and there could be less entertainment running. I don't recall reading any real nightmare stories about spring break crowds here...but I haven't been to DL during spring break since...well...before DCA existed. So I may not have really paid close attention to people's experiences here. :flower3:

I was there last year during Spring Break and my only complaint is that there were lots of disrespectful teenagers without any parents around. And it was very busy, more crowded than I expected. I could deal with crowds, no problem. But I prefer fun, happy, respectful crowds full of families with little kids and grandparents, not 15 year old kids trying to be cool and ruining the rides for other people. I am only 23, but got very annoyed at some of the teens running around.

Thanks for your help everyone!!
Maybe we'll stick to late April to be safe. I kind of did up a mock quote today, based around going on the 15th to the 26th of April. Do you reckon that will be a safe time to go? :scared:

In addition to spring break, April is when high school groups, especially band, choir, orchestra go on tour -- they have competitions and concerts, then head to Disneyland. DH and I have chaperoned the lil darlings and some of them are well-behaved, while others....

I would think that the end of April would be safe -- the high school tour groups are pretty much finished -- gearing up for final exams and graduation by then.

A CM once told me that spring break at DL is about a 6 week event. With the crazy time of the week before and after Easter. Add a couple of weeks to 4/8 and anytime after Apr 22 should be a lot slower.

Do you think the first weekend of March would be before the spring break crowds? I wanted to plan for 1st weekend of Feb, but hubby said March might be a bit better-weather-wise....I just want to avoid the crowds as much as possible...

Actually, the weather in early February in Southern California isn't that bad, especially compared to snow country. Evenings get a tad chilly but just wear an extra layer and you're good to go. I would rather wear warmer clothes and avoid the crowds than hope for somewhat warmer weather and stand in longer lines.

we're from northern CA, so we are spoiled! I think I will keep pushing for early Feb...
