I wish I had seen this thread a few days ago. My son came in contact somehow with poison ivy and has been miserable since last week. I posted a thread on here and found out about Zanfel. So I went out, spent the $40 on Wednesday. By Thursday morning he was in the doctors office. Between the poison ivy and his asthma kickin in (he gets it REALLY bad in the beginning of fall) he was one miserable kid.
Anyhow, the nurse told me about a soap called Fels Naptha that she used on her boys when they got poison ivy as kids. She would melt it down and when it was cool enough to handle, she would spread it over the poison ivy, then the kids would go to bed and when they woke up the next morning they would take a shower and be as good as gold (no more itching). I have yet to find it though.
But since my son had the poison ivy and trouble breathing from his asthma, the doctor gave him a prescription for prednisone. Seemed to do the trick for both at the same time. My son woke up the next morning and hasn't itched since plus he said that when he walked up the staircase at school, he could breathe when he got to the top!!!
But I will keep my eye out for that soap and buy some just to keep on hand, just in case he gets it again.
