HELP! Should I buy SSR or BCV?

I agree with the buy where you want to stay mantra. That's why we started with BWV (sight unseen) and added VWL and AKL, all within one year. I think we're done now. Maybe. :rolleyes1

i just went through this same dilemna over the last couple of weeks. ive been going back and forth for a couple of years. i ended up getting BWV direct thru Disney. it was a hard decision. giving up 12 to 15 years was rough and the loss of the double developer points was painful as well. but i wanted to be sure i could stay were i prefered. 35 years is still a long time. would i be unhappy if i "had to stay" at SSR or AKV? absolutely not. but i wouldnt be as happy. in 4 years we will be empty nesters and our vacation habits will change and from the feedback i got here and speaking directly with Disney it seems it would be very hard to stay at my preferences during the food and wine festival or early Dec. so i say go with what you love not with what you like. if you are impaitent like me and dont want to go thru the ROFR process i think you can get points direct from Disney for sold out resorts. maybe i was just lucky.....but after pushing the issue and Disney realized that i was probably going the resale route they had BWV points availble.

also, as someone pointed out to me....who knows how many other DVC resorts they will be adding over the next 10 years. you can always buy into a new resort years down the road if your are worried about the length of contract.

We own SSR--wanted the lower price/point and the extra years. We don't love one resort over another. We truly like them all. We have been fortunate to stay at all of them several times on our points. We actually kind of like the surprise of where we will end up staying. We choose a resort as our first choice and if that's not available, we take something that its. For example DS wanted to stay at the BCV for President's Week '08. I called at the 7 month mark, and it wasn't available--oh well! Everything else was so we booked VWL. There is something with every resort that we love, and something with every resort we would change.

In short, if you aren't totally in love with a particular resort and just love the fact that you can go to Disney World and stay in top-notch accomodations, home resort isn't that important. When we decide to travel during really, really busy times, we just book SSR at 11 months.

Interesting It would seem there are more SSR owners responding than BCV.

The outcome of this thread will depend on which owners respond and who starts the bashing first. Go with your gut intinct you can not go wrong with any resort and the worst that can happen is you end up staying at one of 5 1/2 great resorts on Dinsey property almost any time of the year if you the 11 month window. in one long sentence

I could have written this post! We own at SSR (and now just recently AKV) but its kind of exciting to call MS and see whats available. Very few times have I called and only SSR is available. We've stayed at BWV twice during peak times and we're staying at BCV next month for a week, even though I know its low season. I have only stayed two nights at SSR - BUT we really love it there. So if thats the only place available when I call, its fine with me. As others have said the double developer points are a GREAT deal right now, as are the additional years. It will be nice to leave it to our kids so they can go and always remember growing up Disney.

We bought SSR last spring, my inlaws have OKW, and SIL and her family have BCV I believe. I've stayed at SSR and OKW and the rest of the family with DVC bounces around to check em all out. I liked the slightly more open floor plan at OKW but have no complaints about SSR. Personally I didn't care which one we bought as long as we bought. We'll be at SSR when we go for DS's birthday in October but we're hoping to do AKV when we go in March 2009. Our first choice for our upcoming trip in October was OKW but they were booked a couple of days in the middle of the trip and we didn't want to resort hop so we opted for SSR. Eventually I'd like to make the rounds and stay at all of them.:)

I was under the belief that those were only for add-ons, as opposed to new contracts (I could be wrong about that point).

I just verified that I was, indeed, wrong on that point. Evidentally, about a year ago, DVC changed their policy and will now sell points from the waitlist to new members also. Guess it shows that just as we know it all, they'll go and change it on us. ;) Fortunately, I'm up to date and know it all again. ;) :rotfl: :thumbsup2

We also bought 200 points at SSR a few years ago with a great incentive.
We have never stayed there.....We go at least 3 times a year....flower and garden, food and wine and one summer. We have stayed at BCV for the Epcot events, and have stayed at the others just to try them....have always gotten what we wanted, even when on a waitlist.

BCV so far is our favorite.

I just bought points at BCV through Disney. I had to wait about 6 months, but that was fine. I decided to go with BCV for location, the pool and the popularity.

I figure it wouldn't be hard to sell them if I needed to....people would want to rent the points for there...and I can really reserve anywhere I want ultimately.

I can't wait to go!!!!

and I can really reserve anywhere I want ultimately.

You will only be able to reserve a non home resort based on avialability at the seven month window. BCV is a nice resort but dut does not give you a better chance as any other resort owner of getting other resorts at popular times of the year.
