Help! Shot down on Sunset Safari!

I just called Disney Reservations to make changes to my room request. (PO) I then asked to make a reservation for Sunset Safari. I was told that "if you are not staying at Concierge level at Animal Kingdom, you cannot make a reservation for this feature". Has anyone experienced this? Do you have another number I can call.

I want to surprise my friend going with me and this puts a big damper on the surprise. It does not make sense. I'm paying the money. It's $300 for two people. Give me a break!

This is true. It used to be just concierge at AK but if I'm not mistaken if you're in concierge anywhere on property now you can book it. Check allearsnet just to be sure.

The Sunset Safari that tours the savannahs at the AK Lodge and concludes with dinner at Jiko is only for AKL concierge guests.

There is a new safari at the AK for guests at any concierge, After a long search, I finally found the info on it.

TurnR@TheMouseHouse, welcome to the Dis. The others are correct, the Sunset Safari is only for concierge guests of the AKL. However, if you want to buy out all 8 seats for a personal safari, you might be able to do that (it's been done in the past).

There are many special things that you can experience at WDW without being a concierge guest. How 'bout dinner at Victoria & Albert's? Dinner at the California Grill? Dinner at any number of fine dining establishments inside the theme parks?

That is correct. Only Concierge level guests at the AKL are able to book this tour. Whoever told you that you could book this tour while staying at PO was incorrect.

There is a Grand Gathering sunset safari at the AK park.

The Sunset Safari at the AKL is a tour of the savannas at the lodge followed by dinner at Jiko.

I booked the first 5 nights at a cheaper DTD hotel and the last 2 nights of our January 2005 vacation Concierge at AKL just so we could spend the extra $300 on top of the steep Concierge room rate so we could go on the Sunset Safari. I felt the whole Concierge Level for 2 nights + the Safari was worth it for the experience. I don't make big bucks, but this was DH and my first trip without kids since we were married 32 years ago and I wanted it to be special.

This is a special Perc for people who are willing to spend the extra money on an upgraded experience and are willing to spend a little more to make it even more special.

For our 30th anniversary we did dinner at V&A at the GF. It was the most remarkable meal experience. Expensive, but have to do that sometimes to have the experience.

The sunset sarafi at the AKL is not just Magical Gatherings. It is for AKL concierge guest only. Here is a link to a post that has some good info.
