It's just for the kids to use for CD-roms, pictures and stuff, no internet.

Looking for something affordable, nothing fancy.

Any recommendations?

We got an inexpensive emachine on Black Friday and so far it's pretty great. We also discovered in the packaging that emachines are made by Gateway.

I got an emachine from bestbuy. I paid 599 for it, but have 300.00 in rebates. I sent them in about 2 weeks ago and have already received the one back for 150.00. I'm waiting for 3 more for 50.00 each. It comes w/printer and everything. In the best buy adds yesterday, the same exact one was in there again. It is perfect for our DS 4. :cool1: :cool1:

I got one of the E-Machines on Black Friday ($500 computer for $150). Ours is for DS who will use it for games, etc.--no internet.

DD15 has had an eMachine for 2 years now and loves it. We've had no problems with it and she is on the computer for at least 2 hours everyday. I would definitely consider purchasing another one for simple computing needs if I were in the market for one.

Avoid Dell.

Why? :confused3
I have my Dell 5 years now. Best one I've owned. Wouldn't know about customer service, Never had to call! Only thing now is Windows ME is pretty much obsolete.
Other members of my family have Dells also, they have no problems either.

Can you upgrade your dell to XP?? or do you have to buy a new computer? :confused3

We have an Emachines tower also...for our regular computer...the girls have a rebuilt one for theirs (uncle does that kind of tinkering for fun). This is our second Emachine and we love it...the only reason we got the second one is the first just became obsolete but I think a new computer every five years is great!!

I would suggest getting the extended service contract...our first tower caught fire right after the original warranty expired and we received an upgraded tower as part of the extension.(so I guess it would be three Etowers in 10 years :rotfl2: )
