First of all, don't congratulate me yet, but there is a good chance I will be pregnant on our next cruise. ;) The problem is, I am very susceptible to motion sickness and was planning to wear the Patch to make this cruise enjoyable. I've done online research and haven't yet seen a med I can take safely while pregnant. I'm really thinking I should cancel and do the parks instead. My final payment is due in a month so I really have to make a decision then.

I've already told DS#2 that he'll have his 6th birthday onboard and it would be a wonderful restful break to cruise. Has anyone's doctor allowed sea sickness meds while pregnant (about 18 weeks) and did they work?

You may want to try one of the non-medicine remedies. I know when I was pregnant, the doctor told me that ginger was a good morning sickness remedy. It is also been touted as a good sea sickness remedy. Others have mentioned the motion sickness band for your wrist.

No matter what - check with your OB/GYN and see what he/she has to say.

Meclizine (generic Bonine) is perfectly safe to take while pregnant. You can get it at most pharmacies. We went to the counter at Target and picked it up there. It is far cheaper than the name brand and just as effective.

Really? That's good news.

• Meclizine is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Do not take meclizine without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.

I would still talk to your OB/midwife before taking any medication but Ms. Flagger took it while pregnant with no harm to our child. The key for any anti-nausea med is to take it before you get sick. Say we take a week Sun-Sun cruise. We start taking it the day before we start our cruise. Usually in the morning before our flight to the port.

I was 4 months pregnant on my last cruise and just coming off of a few months of heavy nausea -- so I was still experiencing sick stomach. I drank gingerale, sipped ginger tea and made sure I was always well-hydrated and always had food in my belly (easy to do onboard). Overall, I didn't have too many instances of sickies from the motion -- and pre-pregnancy cruising I've always taken dramamine.

Too, it was some of the best sleep I had while pregnant!

I say to go for it and take any safe precautions you can.

I was 20 weeks pregnant on our last cruise in May. My doctor wrote me a prescription for Zofran, which is an anti-nausea medication used for morning sickness. He said that morning sickness and motion sickness were virtually the same symptom wise. I did take it on the first day of the cruise with no problems, but then I was fine after that and never ended up taking more for the rest of the cruise. Worked like a charm.

I would start off with something safe like ginger capsules (at least the morning of your cruise if not the day before).
Of course double check it with your OBGYN first !! Also, good advice not to go too long between meals. In fact, I kept a box of raisins by my bedside when I was pregnant and ate some first thing in the morning before I even got up. My midwife also advised some kind of protein right before bed (cheese amd crackers) so that something is in your stomach for as long as possible.
Definitely take something at the first sign of nausea because if you wait too long, nothing seems to work (just like Flagger said  )

I'm very prone to motion sickness-(car, plane, boat, StarTours) and the bonine and ginger capsules have worked for me.
Good luck!

I get motion sickness and have my whole life from car rides, small boats on area lakes and rides at amusement parks.
But I took a Disney Cruise in February 2005 (the boat was really rocking a lot and often) and I had NO motion sickness what so ever.
For some reason the big ship motion did NOT bother my stomach at all. Its a totally different kind of motion, unlike car sickness, etc..
So who knows it might not bother you either!
But go prepared for it!
