Well, day before yesterday, while I was running, I fell a pain in the left buttock. It was then really bad yesterday, could barely sit down. It only travels down mid thigh. I read some on internet (what did we do before google? ;) ) and decided to do NSAIDS and warm heat. Well it's about 50% better today. The Docs I work with (GI department, so they were all talking out of the side of their mouth) said it sounds like sciatica pain and for me not to run for 6 weeks. 6 WEEKS? :faint: I was planning on doing my 1st 5K at the end of this month. What a bummer.

So, has anyone had this? What is usually the treatment? Do you think walking and yoga will be okay this week?

Thanks for any help, I am really freaking. I got all the way to W6 of the C25K and I really don't want postpone finishing unless it's absolutely necessary.

Uh-oh Robyn ... that's what I had just before the Minnie. On my left side too :( My physio and chiropractor got me back up and running just in time but it was about 6 weeks. My PT had me doing lots of core exercises and my chiro did ART and two back adjustments. I'm actually off to see my PT right now but when I get back I'll see if I can dig up some of the exercises he had me doing.

Oh no, I just got a bad feeling about all of this. It so frustrating, I just to scream.

I am so glad to hear though that you got to the Minnie. Any more problems? I appreciate any advice you can give. If I'm not feeling better by end of week, I'll make a appt with some Ortho guy.

I was recently diagnosed with an inflamed sciatic nerve. I was given anti-inflamitories and muscle relaxers as well as rest. It was about a month before I could return to my normal activities, now I am working on strengthening my core and not over exerting myself at work.

Hey Robyn! I sent you a PM with the exercises my PT gave me. No major injuries since that day and no pain either with running! The exercises really helped to build my core muscles and the ART and adjustments really helped with the pain.

When I first injured myself, I didn't think I was going to be able to walk much less run the Minnie. As I started rehab, I started to see the changes slowly and then I believed I could at least walk the race. By the time it was time for the race, I was actually able to run it (pain-free too!!).

Just take things one day at a time and see how things work out for you. You never know what can happen :goodvibes

Thanks Vicky, I got your PM. I will try them tonight. I made a appt, next available is next Thursday with this Ortho Guy. I don't know if I'm going to be able to wait, as the pain was so intense today at work. :( I really appreciate all your help.

Hey Robyn! Hope you're feeling better today. Do you know of someone who does sport massages? I haven't had one done myself but I've heard that they can be good for pain relief.

Been there several times. My doctor prescribed Ibuphrophin and lots of stretching. Do a search online and you will come up with lots of stretches for sciatic problems. Also building your core helps (I so need help with this!!).

I had sciatic pain when PG with my kids, then it got worse when I started running. Don't give up if you don't get instant relief, because it does take a bit.

Rozzie - I think yoga will be great for it. This sounds liek teh beginning of what I had last year. SIttign on a softball (or whatever you have that's hard and roound hurts like heck but will hlep).

I hurt like the dickens' today. I'll check into sports massage, I have also heard they can do miracles. A Doc I work for got me in to see his Ortho guy tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.

I appreciate all the input from everyone, ya'll are great. :)
