Help me please! I am trying to plan our trip to FW and we are having A/C problems in our TT. It makes a loud whirring noise. My husband does not know about trailer a/c units and is hesitant to go camping this July. Funds are low to try and get it fixed. We may have to cancel! Could anybody give me any pointers on what we can check out on our own and try to fix it ourselves?
Personally, I told him when we tent camped we did it with no A/C or better yet we could throw in some table fans. ANYTHING to get me there! I'm desperate! :scared:

There are some things I don't mess with on my trailer, and the AC unit is one of them. I would probably pull the cowling off and just check to be sure there were no leaves or critters in there from last winter, then turn it over to the AC experts at my dealership.

You can try a local heating and air conditioning out fit in your area and they can come out and try to fix.......not much different then your ac at home...

MAn, you all sound as sane as my husband! ;) I was hoping that someone would give me this off the wall miracle that would save us! He siad the same thing about not wanting to mess with the AC. He's a handy guy but he says he doesn't want to mess with that either. I told him it was just like a home AC but he disagreed. Oh well. We may just have to suck it up and put in a few oscilating fans. I just can't miss FW. I'll sweat it out! :yay:

How old?

Is the compressor kicking on?

Are your filters clean?

Did some Fl. creature make a home inside the cover?

One of the most common bugs is bugs. We have dirt dobbers build nest every winter and have to clean them out, they build on the fan and get it off balance, makes a bit of noise.:cool1:

OK- hubby says the fan runs fine. When we turn the AC on the compressor wants to kick on and makes a loud hum then kicks off. It's a 98 Tahoe.

You can buy a small window unit at Target, Walmart for less than $100.00. I bought one at target for $88.00. Other than that, I have seen new 1 ton units on ebay for around $ 350-400.

I thought of that. We have one (see my signature and notice the Hurricane trials  ) That little window unit kept my sanity and probably saved my husbands life! Ha!

Sounds like 1 of 2 things
1 the compressor is froze up
2 the capacitor on the compressor is bad or had a wire come of of it (fell or burnt off)
if the wire burnt off just cut off the old end and put a new one on and replace on capacitor
if it fell off just put it back on the capacitor
if its bad (probably look burnt and melted) just remove and go to a supply house and get a new one.
But be careful capacitors hold large amounts of electricty and will shock and or kill you. Good Luck

Gee thanks!

Ok, It was the capacitor. Burnt! We are replacing it and headed over in July! Hope to see you there!

Thanks to everyone who offered advice. Even if it did almost get my husband killed. :scared1:
