If anyone can help me, I am driving down in July for our first trip with our baby boy. We are looking to rent a minivan as cheap as possible. Most of the codes and deals that people talk about are for Orlando rentals. I need codes and/or discounts that can be used locally. Please help. Thanks.

Don't know if this will help, but I saved this link from another board. It lists codes for rental car discounts. I haven't used it myself, just bookmarked it for future reference:

Good Luck!

Just an FYI - we travel a lot, and I use mousesavers for my car rental codes. They have worked for me in NY, GA, MN, UT, CA and FL. Not all codes are state specific, and sometimes one may be listed as state specific, but it works anyway. I also check my Costco and Sams Club websites for codes, and pick up their rental car coupons when I am in store. Sometimes the best rates are on the car rental websites themselves. Right now Alamo advertises a 3 day weekend deal, but I have applied that code and gotten an SUV for $199 for a week - so you never know how a code will really work. Sometimes they work beyond the expiration date as well. And try to be flexible - sometimes picking up on different days can save big $$$.

Hope this helps - good luck!!!

We are looking at renting a mini van and driving from Maryland. Something that I have found and wanted to pass along is that some places have mileage restrictions. We only have 3 national chains here locally and only Avis has unlimited miles. Enterprise allows for 150 miles a day and after that they charge 30 cents a mile.

The cheapest I have found so far from Avis for 10/23-30 is $599. I too am hoping to find some codes.

Good Luck!

Melissa

I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned this. Go to mousesavers.com and navigate your way to the transportation link on the left side and there will be loads of codes and offers from all of the big companies. I think it will speak for itself once you start reading.

Good luck!

Hi, jawbones!

You also might need to check with the rental car company to find out if you are allowed to take the rental car out of the state. Many rental car companies have restrictions on where you are allowed to take the car...some restrict you to the state you rent in or the states right around where you rent and charge you quite a bit if you take the car out of that area. The first time we ran into this (well, not literally)(smile), was when we rented a car in Virginia and were told that we weren't allowed to drive it into West Virginia. It was buried deep in the rental contract (the restrictions).

Good luck!

Jawbones, I remember from Dollar at the airport last year and it was 199.00 a week unlimited mileage and that was for spring break, so check the different places and I joined all of them just for the discounts and the early info.

We live on Long Island and checked rental rates around here (This was a couple of years ago). They were sky high!!! I ended up renting from National Emirald Isle out of Newark airport ,getting a minivan for dirt cheap. Haven't seen any deals in the tri state area like that since.
Good luck!!!

We live in Union County, NJ and always pick up a rental car at Newark Airport. The prices at airport agencies are almost always lower than local companies. Plus, I've found that at the smaller locations there are oftentimes restrictions (in-state driving only; limited mileage; very few cars, or no car in your class; limited hours of operation). I don't know where in south Jersey you are located, but if you are near the airport in Phila or AC, try the codes for all the agencies those locations. BTW....those super low prices that are advertised nationally always exclude "the NY metro area" in fine print, and unfortunately for us, that includes Newark airport.

I got my $199 weekly rate unlimited mileage/minivan from Alamo right from their website (April 12). This is the best rate I found last year, too. Just sign up to be in their savings club, which is free, and they really don't bombard you with emails!

We just rented a minivan from Islip Airport - Avis for under $500, unlimited mileage. I got the link off the mousesavers website - it was through sears. was definitely the cheapest rate I had found - actually was for 9 days.
